In case of getting a pink eye (آشوبِ چشم) following have to be remembered:

- It usually clears up in ten to fourteen days.
- In case, it is only slight pink eye, no treatment is needed. Simply wash your eyes with cold water.
- Since it is a contagious disease, don’t share towels/hanker-chief.
- In case, the redness is severe and there is swelling of eyes then use painkillers (Paracetamol) to reduce swelling and pain.
- If your child is infected, do not send them to school for a few days.
- You can also apply ice-pack to closed eyes to reduce pain and swelling.

In case these measures don’t help, please contact an eye specialist.

Salaam all. My name is Brig. Dr. Imran Basit (R). I am an Ophthalmologist with 30+ years of experience. I have worked in multiple army hospitals across Pakistan since 1992 including ~3 years of experience at a military hospital in Saudi Arabia as consultant ophthalmologist.
