Despite the TGA being an independent organisation, media personality Prue MacSween criticised the proposal, ordering the government to "get out of our lives."

But the number of overdoses utilising commonly used items in the society, such as paracetamol, antidepressants, and household goods, has grown alarmingly.
According to data from the NSW and Victorian Poisons Information Centres, overdoses rose by 98% between 2006 and 2016.
