According to the recent inputs of International Agency for Cancer Research, it is estimated that about 12.7 million new cancer cases are registered annually. The agency also reported that out of the aforementioned figure, 7.6 million people died with cancer and 63% out of them belong to the less developed countries.
Pakistan is amongst the highest rate of cancer in whole of Asia. Every year approximately 800,000 new cases are diagnosed and around 500,000 people are died with cancer in Pakistan due to non-awareness and non-detection at early stage, which is 62.5% of the total registered case, however the number of unreported cases is expected to be much more.
Unfortunately lots of cultural and social taboos along with myths and misconceptions are associated with cancer contributing to high mortality rates as most of the patients report at stage III and IV, thus reducing the chances of survival.
Breaking News is that cancer can be detected and cured at a very early stage! So it is important to focus on prevention rather than cure since the survival rate of cancer increases to more than 90% if diagnosed early.
AMARS Scientific Research (ASR) is the first ever non-funded, self sustained research organization in Pakistan, mostly supported by different government departments as Strategic Partners, Top-Level Scientists, Cancer Care Experts, contributions through public humanity and driven by a large number of volunteers all over the country.
The organization connects the world cancer community by leveraging knowledge, promoting education and building awareness. AMARS also plays a vital role in interest of cancer patients by engaging policymakers and other onco-coummunity members to research and promote quality of life. The organization is renowned for its prestigious biennial series of multidisciplinary congresses.
However, the intensity of the circumstances still requires more focused and systematic approaches to address the issue of increasing incidence of cancer in the country. The realization that cancer can be cured serves as a hope for reduced mortality rate associated with it in the days to come and AMARS aims to broadcast this hope to the maximum number of patients in the shortest possible time.
Therefore, crafting widespread awareness is the principal goal of the AMARS Scientific Research and our mission is to become a Centre of Excellence for Cancer Care Information.
