Strengthening Public HealthGovernance Linkages :A Vision for Capacity Building

The Institute of Public Health (IPH), under the visionary leadership of Prof. Dr. Saira Afzal, Dean IPH, is taking important steps to strengthen academic, research and professional development linkages with Pakistan’s premier institutions for public administration and governance.

The emerging collaboration with the Civil Services Academy, Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS), and National School of Public Policy (NSPP) aims to create meaningful opportunities for:

Promoting Collaborative Excellence in Public Health & Medical Education

The Institute of Public Health (IPH), Lahore, had the honour of welcoming Professor Shah Jahan and Professor Saba Khalid from the University of Health Sciences (UHS) for a productive discussion on advancing collaboration between UHS and IPH.

The discussions focused on key areas of mutual interest, including the development of a Public Health Cochrane Research Centre, improvement of Medical Education in Punjab, and advancement of Precision Artificial Intelligence for the prediction of health-related outcomes.

Breast Cancer Prevention: Prevention Today, Healthier Tomorrows

Breast cancer is not only a clinical challenge it is a major public health priority requiring prevention, awareness, early detection, timely treatment, rehabilitation, and palliative care.
As the Institute of Public Health (IPH), Punjab, we are committed to strengthening the fight against breast cancer through evidence-based public health interventions and community engagement.
Our focus includes:
• Raising awareness about breast cancer risk factors, warning signs and the importance of early detection
• Promoting breast health education and timely consultation
• Encouraging healthy lifestyles, including physical activity, healthy nutrition and avoidance of to***co
• Community-based awareness campaigns targeting women, families, schools, workplaces and underserved populations
• Training healthcare professionals and community health workers in effective breast cancer communication and early detection
• Promoting screening and referral pathways for women at increased risk
• Strengthening cancer surveillance, research and evidence-based policy
• Advocating for compassionate palliative and supportive care for patients and families

Prof Dr Abbas Khokhar is doing a phenomenal work under the guidance of Prof Mahmood Ayaz Vice Chancellor King Edward Medical University. Prof Saira Afzal Dean Institute of Public Health and Prof Mulazim Bukhari Advisor Institute of Public Health are invited as Keynote speakers.
Prevention begins with knowledge, healthy choices and access to appropriate healthcare. Early detection can save lives, but prevention also requires addressing the social, environmental and health-system factors that influence cancer outcomes.
