Can people with diabetes eat mango?
Yes—but the answer is more nuanced than a simple yes or no.
Mango is rich in vitamin A, vitamin C, fiber and antioxidants. Having diabetes doesn't automatically mean you must avoid mango. Research does not recommend completely avoiding mango for everyone with diabetes. Instead, it should be eaten in appropriate portions as part of a balanced diet. The important factors are portion size, your overall meal composition and your individual blood glucose response.
✔ Enjoy it in moderation.
✔ Pair it with a source of protein, such as yogurt or a handful of nuts, to help make the meal more balanced.
✔ Avoid mango juice, as it contains less fiber and can raise blood glucose more quickly.
