Limb-Saving Emergency Intervention

A 55-year-old lady with a history of vulval cancer, bilateral inguinal lymphadenectomy and right lower-limb fasciotomy presented with recurrent life-threatening bleeding from a femoral artery pseudoaneurysm.

After recurrent bleeding despite surgical repair and SFA embolectomy, covered stent placement was performed as an emergency limb-saving procedure.

Alhamdulillah, the stent was successfully deployed, controlling the bleeding and preserving the limb, avoiding emergency femoral artery ligation and possible amputation.

Using real-time X-ray guidance, the radiologist creates a small tract inside the liver.
✅Connecting Blood Vessels
This tract connects:
-Portal Vein (carries blood from intestines to liver)
-Hepatic Vein (carries blood from liver to heart)
✅Stent Placement
A small metal stent (tube) is placed to keep this new pathway open.
✅Result
Blood bypasses the scarred liver, reducing portal vein pressure and preventing complications like bleeding and fluid buildup.

A 29-year-old patient with a long history of recurrent upper GI bleeding underwent multiple unsuccessful endoscopies.
