*FSH HORMONE TEST – COMPLETE INFORMATION*
_Follicle Stimulating Hormone_
*1. WHAT IS FSH*
*FSH* = Follicle Stimulating Hormone. Made by *Pituitary gland* in brain.
*Job*: Tells ovaries in females and te**es in males to produce eggs/s***m + s*x hormones.
*Think of it like*: FSH = “Manager” that tells ovaries “Start growing the egg this month”.
*2. NORMAL FSH VALUES – BLOOD TEST*
**Stage** **Females** **Males**
**Childhood** 0.3 – 4.0 mIU/mL 0.3 – 4.0 mIU/mL
**Reproductive Age** **Follicular phase: 3.5 – 12.5 mIU/mL** **Ovulation: 4.7 – 25.0 mIU/mL** **Luteal phase: 1.7 – 7.7 mIU/mL** **1.5 – 12.4 mIU/mL**
**Menopause** **25.8 – 134.8 mIU/mL** – High —
**Pregnancy** Very low – almost 0 —
*Important for Women*: FSH test should be done on *Day 3 of period* – Day 1 = first day of bleeding. This gives true ovarian reserve.
*3. FSH HIGH – WHAT IT MEANS*
**In Females** **In Males**
**>25 mIU/mL** = **Menopause or Perimenopause**. Ovaries not responding → pituitary makes more FSH to push them **>12.4 mIU/mL** = **Testicular failure**. Te**es not making enough s***m/testosterone → pituitary overworks
**>40 mIU/mL** = Confirmed menopause **>20 mIU/mL** = Severe s***m production problem
**Causes**: Age 40+, ovarian failure, premature ovarian failure, chemotherapy, radiation **Causes**: Testicular damage, mumps orchitis, Klinefelter syndrome, chemo
*Single Symptom*: _High FSH = Ovaries/Te**es are “tired” or “not working”_
*4. FSH LOW – WHAT IT MEANS*
**In Females** **In Males**
**25 mIU/mL** **Menopause** – Eggs almost finished
*Rule*: _Higher FSH = Lower egg reserve = Lower fertility_
*6. SYMPTOMS WHEN FSH IS ABNORMAL*
**High FSH** **Low FSH**
Hot flushes, night sweats, dryness – Menopause Irregular or no periods – PCOS
Infertility, difficulty conceiving Weight gain, acne, facial hair – PCOS
Vaginal dryness, low libido Fatigue, low energy
*7. FSH + OTHER HORMONES – COMPLETE PICTURE*
**Hormone Combination** **Meaning**
**High FSH + High LH + Low Estrogen** **Menopause**
**High FSH + High LH + High Testosterone** **PCOS**
**Low FSH + Low LH + Low Estrogen** **Pituitary problem** – Hypothalamic amenorrhea
**Normal FSH + Irregular Periods** **Thyroid or Prolactin problem** – Not FSH issue
*8. WHAT AFFECTS FSH TEST RESULT*
- *Time of cycle*: Must be Day 3 for women. If done later → result will be misleading
- *Age*: FSH naturally rises after age 35
- *Birth control pills*: Suppress FSH → stop pills 2 months before test
- *Stress*: Can temporarily lower FSH
*9. HOMOEOPATHIC VIEW – FSH IMBALANCE*
**FSH High + Menopause** **FSH High + Infertility** **FSH Low + PCOS**
**Sepia 30C** – Hot flushes + indifference **Aurum Mur 30C** – Infertility + depression **Pulsatilla 30C** – Irregular periods + no thirst
**Lachesis 30C** – Hot flushes + 25** Menopause confirmed. Focus on bone health + heart health + symptoms control
*Bottom Line:*
*FSH = Egg/Sperm reserve indicator*.
*High FSH in woman 30-40* = Ovarian reserve low → fertility concern.
*High FSH in woman 50+* = Normal – menopause.
*Low FSH* = Pituitary or PCOS issue.
*Tip*: FSH alone doesn’t tell full story. Always test with *AMH + LH + Estradiol* for complete fertility picture.
