🔥 Chemical (Acid/Alkali) Burns: Immediate Management Can Save Tissue and Vision
Chemical burns are true medical emergencies. Early first aid can significantly reduce tissue damage, complications, and long-term disability.
✅ Immediate Steps
1️⃣ Ensure personal safety and remove the patient from the source of exposure.
2️⃣ Remove contaminated clothing, jewelry, and accessories.
3️⃣ Irrigate the affected area immediately with copious running water for at least 20–30 minutes.
4️⃣ If the eyes are involved, begin continuous eye irrigation immediately and seek urgent ophthalmology evaluation.
5️⃣ Avoid neutralizing agents, creams, ointments, toothpaste, ice, or home remedies.
6️⃣ Arrange urgent medical assessment, especially for large, deep, facial, ge***al, hand, or eye burns.
