Sever disease :
Sever disease, also known as calcaneal apophysitis, is a common condition that affects children and adolescents between the ages of 8 and 15 years old. It is an overuse injury that occurs in the growth plate of the heel bone, known as the calcaneus.
The condition is caused by repetitive stress and tension on the growth plate due to activities that involve running or jumping, such as sports like soccer, basketball, and gymnastics. It can also be caused by wearing shoes with insufficient support or cushioning.
Symptoms:
The symptoms of Sever's disease may include:
✔️Pain in the heel that worsens with activity, especially running or jumping.
✔️Swelling and redness in the heel.
✔️Tenderness when touching the heel.
✔️Stiffness in the heel.
✔️Difficulty walking or running.
Treatment:
Treatment for Sever's disease typically involves rest, ice, compression, and elevation (RICE therapy), as well as stretching and strengthening exercises. In some cases, a heel cup or orthotic device may be recommended to provide additional support and cushioning.
If you suspect that you or your child may have Sever's disease, it is important to consult with a healthcare professional or sports medicine specialist for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
