🩸 Gastric Vascular Ectasia (GAVE) – “Watermelon Stomach” Awareness

Gastric Vascular Ectasia (GAVE), commonly known as “Watermelon Stomach,” is a condition in which abnormal blood vessels develop in the stomach lining, leading to chronic or recurrent bleeding.

⚠️ Common symptoms:
• Fatigue and weakness
• Iron deficiency anemia
• Black, tarry stools (melena)
• Occasionally vomiting blood

👥 Who is at risk?
• Older adults
• People with liver disease (cirrhosis)
• Autoimmune disorders
• Chronic kidney disease

🔍 Diagnosis: Upper GI endoscopy is the gold standard.

💡 Treatment: Endoscopic therapies such as Argon Plasma Coagulation (APC) are highly effective in controlling bleeding. Iron supplementation or blood transfusions may also be needed in some cases.

❗Persistent anemia or unexplained gastrointestinal bleeding should never be ignored. Early diagnosis and treatment can prevent complications.

ہیپاٹائٹس بی کی بروقت تشخیص اور ماہر ڈاکٹر کے مشورے سے علاج بیماری کو قابو میں رکھنے اور جگر کو نقصان سے بچانے میں مدد دیتا ہے۔

A gastrostomy tube (G-tube) is a feeding tube placed directly into the stomach through the abdominal wall. It is used when a person cannot eat or drink enough by mouth but their stomach works normally.
Why is a G-tube needed?

* Have difficulty swallowing (due to stroke or neurological conditions).
* Have certain cancers of the mouth or throat.
* Need long-term nutritional support.
* Have medical conditions that prevent adequate oral feeding.

Benefits

* Provides adequate nutrition and hydration.
* Makes it easier to give medications.

Daily Care
