Minutes of Today’s Standing Committee Meeting

1. Medical College Seats & Healthcare Workforce Planning
The Committee directed PMDC to conduct a comprehensive analysis of Pakistan’s healthcare workforce needs and determine the required number of doctors for the country. Based on these findings, steps will be taken to increase medical college seats. The proposed increase is expected to occur primarily within the private sector through a structured mechanism. Additionally, the Committee emphasized exploring public-private partnership models and introducing scholarship programs alongside any seat expansion.

2. MDCAT Syllabus Standardization
The Committee advised PMDC to develop a future MDCAT syllabus that ensures fairness for both FSc and A-Level students, minimizing academic disadvantages for either group.

3. Standardized MCQ Bank
The Committee recommended the development of a standardized MCQ bank for MDCAT and other relevant examinations. Specialized committees may be established to oversee the preparation, review, and quality assurance of question banks.

4. MDCAT Schedule
Regarding concerns about a possible MDCAT delay, PMDC informed the Committee that all necessary arrangements have been finalized. Therefore, the examination is expected to be conducted according to the announced schedule.

5. MDCAT Validity Rule
The issue of MDCAT validity was also discussed during the meeting. According to PMDC representatives, a legal review of the relevant regulations is currently underway. PMDC will present its findings and any possible relief or compensation measures for affected students in an upcoming Committee meeting.

KMU Successfully Conducts First Day of Its First-Ever Computer-Based Centralized Admission Test

Khyber Medical University (KMU), Peshawar, successfully conducted the first day of the Computer-Based Centralized Admission Test (KMU-CAT 2026) for admissions to Pharm-D, BS Nursing, Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), and Allied Health Sciences undergraduate programs.

For the first time in KMU's history, the admission test is being conducted through a fully computer-based, paperless examination system, replacing the traditional paper-based format to enhance merit, transparency, efficiency, and convenience.

A total of 18,152 candidates have registered for KMU-CAT 2026. On the first day, 6,971 candidates appeared at 23 fully air-conditioned computer-based examination centers across Peshawar, Kohat, Malakand, Swat, Hazara, Chitral, and Upper Dir. Candidates received their results immediately after completing the test.

🚨 Senate Standing Committee on Health – Important Update 🚨

An important meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Health will be held tomorrow to discuss key issues related to MDCAT and the Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PM&DC) admission policies.

The agenda is expected to include:

• The proposed 3-year validity of MDCAT
• Fee structures
• Other important admission-related matters

We hope the meeting results in positive outcomes for students.

Personal Update:

I have personally suggested reconsidering the proposed 3-year MDCAT validity and reducing it to 2 years by conveying this recommendation to two core members of the Health Committee. Let’s hope this concern is taken into consideration and we receive positive news.
