SMBZAN ICQ had the privilege of welcoming a distinguished delegation from College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan on 25th July 2026 for inspection in connection with accreditation of its Pediatrics Cardiology Department. The delegation comprised of Prof. Aisha Siddiqa, (Regional Director CPSP Quetta), Dr. Abdul Salam (GM CPSP Quetta), Mr. Javed Ghaffar (Registrar CPSP Karachi) and Dr. Saleem Akhter (Assoc. Prof. Paediatric Cardiology Agha Khan Hospital Karachi as Inspector).

The visit commenced with interaction with CEO after which the delegation was presented a brief on SMBZAN ICQ, highlighting its history and achievements.

The delegation subsequently visited various departments of the institute and appreciated the institute's commitment to maintaining high standards of patient care, clinical excellence and medical education.

The visit concluded with presentation of commemorative shields to the distinguished delegation, followed by a group photograph, marking a productive event at SMBZAN ICQ.

Subsequently, CPSP granted accreditation to Paediatric Cardiology Department for FCPS training program.

The continued partnership between NICVD and SMBZAN ICQ reached another significant milestone as the NICVD Paediatric Cardiology team visited SMBZAN ICQ from 24th to 26th July 2026, bringing advanced paediatric cardiac care closer to the children of Balochistan.

During the three-day visit, 350 children were examined in the OPD, with echocardiography performed for patients where clinically indicated. In addition, 20–25 paediatric Cath Interventions were successfully carried out, providing timely, specialized and life-changing cardiac treatment to children from across the province.

This continued collaboration reflects the shared commitment of NICVD and SMBZAN ICQ to strengthening paediatric cardiac services, expanding access to advanced treatment and ensuring that the people of Balochistan receive high-quality, world-class cardiac care closer to home. Together, both institutions remain dedicated to improving patient outcomes and building a healthier future for the children of Balochistan.

On 13 July 2026, SMBZAN ICQ had the honour of welcoming and hosting the delegates of the 20th iteration of the National Workshop on Balochistan (NWB XX), a regular initiative aimed at showcasing the beauty of Balochistan, highlighting the efforts being made to improve the socio-economic well-being of its people and helping to dispel misconceptions about the province.

During the visit, Brig Asim Iftikhar, CEO SMBZAN ICQ, briefed the delegates about the institute's achievements, state-of-the-art cardiac services and future plans. The participants appreciated the remarkable progress made by the institute and showed keen interest through insightful questions.

In connection with registration of SMBZAN ICQ, an orientation visit was conducted by Balochistan Healthcare Commission on 29 June 2026. The delegation was headed by Dr. Lubna Khalil, Dir L&A and Dr. Faria Shah, Dy Dir CG&SD.

The delegation interacted with Brig Asim Iftikhar, CEO SMBZAN ICQ after which they were briefed about the health care services and quality standards and patient care practices of the institute by respective HoDs.

The visit was conducted as part of BHCC's mandate to regulate healthcare establishments, ensure safe and quality healthcare services, enforce minimum service delivery standards, promote clinical governance, safeguard patient rights, and eliminate medical quackery. For the first time in Balochistan, successful Rotational Atherectomy (ROTA) was performed through trans-radial approach by Dr. Huma Naeem Tareen and Dr. Asfandyar Kakar.

Compared to the traditional femoral approach, transradial technique offers fewer complications, reduced bleeding risk, greater patient comfort, and earlier mobilization.

This achievement marks another significant step in advancing complex coronary interventions and delivering state-of-the-art cardiac care in Balochistan.

Myocardial Perfusion Imaging (MPI) plays a vital role in the diagnosis and management of coronary artery disease by providing valuable information regarding myocardial blood flow and cardiac function.

Nuclear Medicine Department SMBZAN ICQ has achieved a significant milestone with the successful completion of 500 plus Myocardial Perfusion Scans. To commemorate this achievement, a celebratory event was organized at SMBZAN ICQ.

The ceremony commenced with a presentation by Dr. Anam Fatima, Head of the Nuclear Medicine Department, who highlighted the department’s journey, accomplishments, and the significance of reaching this landmark milestone. We had the privilege of welcoming and hosting a high-level delegation from the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP), led by President CPSP Prof Muhammad Shoaib Shafi. The distinguished delegation also included Prof Khalid Masood Gondal, (Senior Vice President), Mr Muhammad Amir Zaman, (DGME), Prof Muhammad Asghar Butt, (DGIR), Prof Jehangir Khan, (Councilor), Prof Aisha Siddiqa, (Councilor), along with senior CPSP inspectors. The delegation was accompanied by Mr Mujeeb ur Rehman Secretary Health Balochistan.

The continued partnership between NICVD and SMBZAN ICQ reached another milestone as the NICVD Paediatric Cardiac Surgery and Paediatric Cardiology teams visited SMBZAN ICQ from 5th to 7th June 2026 to deliver advanced paediatric cardiac care to the children of Balochistan.

During the three-day visit, 352 children were examined in the OPD, 31 Cath Interventions were successfully performed, and 6 Paediatric Cardiac Surgeries were conducted, bringing hope and life-saving treatment closer to families across the province.
