Typhoid Fever: The Summer Shadow 🌡️🦠
Moms, as the hot summer weather arrives, a silent illness called Typhoid Fever starts to spread more quickly in our communities. This illness is often called a "summer shadow" because it hides in unclean drinking water and raw or uncovered food. 💧🚫
Typhoid can make children very sick for many weeks. Knowing the early signs can help you protect your child before the illness becomes severe!
Key Signs of Typhoid to Watch For:
Step-by-Step Fever: The fever starts low but gets higher and higher each day. It is often worst in the evening or night. 🤒📈
A "Coated" Tongue: If you look inside your child's mouth, you might see a thick white or grayish coating on their tongue. 👅
Severe Headache and Body Pain: Your child may complain of a very heavy head or say their bones and muscles hurt. 🤕
Tummy Troubles: They may experience bad stomach aches, constipation (difficulty passing stool), or watery diarrhea. 🤢
No Energy: Your child will feel very weak, refuse to eat their favorite foods, and prefer to sleep all day. 😴
Simple Actions to Protect Your Child at Home:
The 100°C Rule: Always boil your family's drinking water! Let it reach a rolling boil for at least 1 minute to kill all Typhoid germs. 🚰🔥
Cover All Food: Never leave cooked food open on the kitchen counter. Flies carry the germs from dirty areas straight to your child's meal. 🪰🛡️
Avoid Raw Street Foods: During the peak heat, keep children away from street-vended drinks, ice creams made with tap water, and pre-cut fruits. 🍉🍦
Wash Hands with Soap: Ensure your child washes their hands thoroughly after playing outside and after using the bathroom. 🧼👐
When to See a Doctor:
If your child has a high fever that does not go down after 3 days, do not wait or try home remedies. A simple blood test can help find the problem early so they can get the right medicine to recover quickly! 🏥🩺
