WHAT IS HYSTERECTOMY?
A hysterectomy is a surgical procedure to remove the uterus (womb). After a hysterectomy:
* You will no longer have menstrual periods.
* You cannot become pregnant.
Why is a hysterectomy done?
It may be recommended to treat:
* Large or symptomatic uterine fibroids
* Heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding
* Endometriosis
* Adenomyosis
* Uterine prolapse
* Chronic pelvic pain (in selected cases)
* Cancer of the uterus, cervix, or ovaries, or certain precancerous conditions.
