Just because I have a male dog doesn’t mean he should be used as a stud. I have multiple dogs but only one I deem fit as a stud dog

Breeding isn’t about convenience, ego or “he’s a lovely boy.” It’s about responsibility. It’s about protecting the future of the breed, not adding to the number of dogs already struggling with poor health, unstable temperaments or no clear purpose.

A true stud dog should bring something valuable to the table, proven temperament, solid health testing and a clear fit for purpose. That means a dog that can think clearly under pressure, remain steady and biddable and do the job he was bred for. Not just look the part, actually be the part.

Health testing isn’t optional. Temperament isn’t negotiable and “nice” isn’t enough.

Not every dog, no matter how loved, should be bred from and that’s okay. Responsible ownership sometimes means saying no even when it would be easier to say yes.

Because breeding should always be about improving the breed… never just reproducing it.
