The path of a Single Mum

A road lined with trees often symbolizes a journey , a path filled with challenges, growth, and new beginnings. Much like the road ahead for a single mum, it may not always be easy, but every step forward shows courage, determination, and hope.

Being a single mum is one of the most rewarding, but also one of the most challenging roles in life. It often feels like doing the work of two people — providing emotional support, making important decisions, managing a household, and earning a living, all at the same time.

As single mothers, we tend to put everyone else’s needs before our own. However, taking care of yourself is not a luxury; it is a necessity. Your physical and mental well-being directly affects your ability to care for your children. Prioritize rest when possible, maintain healthy habits, and don’t feel guilty about taking time for yourself.

One of the most important things to remember is that you do not have to do everything alone. Building a strong support network can make a huge difference. Family members, friends, neighbours, other parents, teachers, and local communities can provide practical help, emotional support, and encouragement when you need it most.

It is also important to pay attention to signs of burnout. Constant exhaustion, feeling overwhelmed, or neglecting your own needs are signals that it’s time to ask for help and make space for recovery.

Being a single mum requires resilience, patience, and strength. But strength is not about handling everything by yourself. True strength is knowing when to reach out, accept support, and invest in your own well-being.

Remember: you cannot pour from an empty cup. Taking care of yourself is one of the best things you can do for your children.

Posttraumatic growth

Contemporary research on mental health increasingly focuses not only on the negative consequences of trauma, but also on the possibilities of positive adaptation following difficult experiences. Posttraumatic growth (PTG) is a psychological construct referring to positive changes in an individual’s functioning after experiencing traumatic events. This phenomenon involves cognitive and emotional transformation leading to increased self-awareness, a reevaluation of personal values, and the development of more adaptive coping strategies. The literature emphasizes that posttraumatic growth is not a direct consequence of trauma itself, but rather the result of cognitive processing and meaning-making related to the traumatic experience. Areas most commonly associated with PTG include an increased sense of personal strength, improved interpersonal relationships, greater appreciation of life, and spiritual or existential development. Contemporary studies indicate that the level of posttraumatic growth may be moderated by individual, social, and cultural factors, including psychological resilience, social support, and coping styles.

When parents say that a child "doesn't listen," what they really mean is that they don't obey. And why don't they? Often it's for some pretty understandable reasons, like these: http://bit.ly/45tgVjL
