I didn't expect to hear from either of them again.

For a while, I used to run meditation and sound healing sessions for teams at work, helping people pause, breathe, and reset in the middle of a packed day. Then the job ended, the sessions stopped, and I figured that was that.

Last week, out of nowhere, two messages showed up. Here's what they said:

This is exactly what I want this work to do: help people feel calmer, more grounded, and more present, whether that's in a meeting or in their own life outside of it. Not something abstract. Something you can actually feel in your body in the middle of a hard week.

This is the part that reminds me why I kept going, even after the sessions for that group themselves ended.

My book just came back from the proofreader. Hundreds of comments, and one line that genuinely stopped me for a second.

19 years of cluster headaches. 10 years of research into why the body does what it does. It's all in there, and it's getting a little more polished with every pass.

Hi, I'm Tomek 👋

What I help with: Trauma, nervous system regulation, C-PTSD and PTSD, mindfulness practices for individuals and teams.

The benefit: You'll understand why your body reacts the way it does, and learn to calm it instead of fighting it.

What sets me apart: A certified psychotraumatologist with clinical training and lived experience, not just theory. Free from cluster headaches after 19 years, I know this path from both sides.

The doorbell used to make my whole body react before I even saw who it was. Heart rate up. Shoulders tight. A half-second of "who is it" that felt more like alarm than curiosity.

Depending on who was standing there, everything changed in an instant. A neighbor, and my body settled fast. A stranger, a delivery I wasn't expecting, and that alarm just quietly stayed on in the background.

If you've ever felt "on edge for no reason" and assumed something was wrong with you, it wasn't.

Your nervous system was making the best guess it could with old information, flagging a sound as danger long after the danger was gone. That's not a flaw. That's a brain doing its job with outdated data.

Here's the part most people don't know: that wiring isn't fixed. I had a client tell me, months into working on this, that she stopped noticing her own doorbell reaction until a friend pointed out how calm she'd gotten. She hadn't been trying to fix it anymore. It had just changed.

That's neuroplasticity. The same brain that learned to overreact can learn to respond to what's actually in front of you.

You're not broken. You're not stuck with the reaction you have today.

Save this if a sound has ever made your body react before your mind caught up.

Your priorities changed again? Back-to-back meetings? Someone said something you're still sitting with?

You don't need the full story to feel the effect of it in your body.

Try this: squeeze both hands as you breathe in, relax them as you breathe out. Five times. That's it.

It takes around 30 seconds and nobody around you needs to know you're doing it.

Save this for later, or send it to someone who's had one of those days.

If your body ever feels wired, tight, or like it just won't switch off, this one's for you.

Your vagus nerve is the direct line between your brain and your body's sense of safety. And the good news is, there are simple, physical things you can do to activate it right when you need it.

Swipe through for 3 things that actually help. No breathing app, no fancy technique. Just your own body, doing what it already knows how to do.

Full 5-minute guided practice is free on YouTube, links in the comments!

5 micro-practices to try this week. None of them take more than a minute or two, but they add up.

1. 60-Second Reset: pause, breathe, feel your feet, reset your nervous system
2. One Thing at a Time: choose one priority and give it your full attention
3. Mindful Transitions: before every meeting or task, take one breath to arrive
4. Check In: how am I right now? Name it, acknowledge it, let it be
5. Protect Your End: close your day intentionally, it improves tomorrow

Small, repeatable moments like these are what actually build a mindfulness practice, not one big session a week, but a handful of seconds spread through the day.

Try one this week and see what shifts.

For everyone who's been told "it's all in your head" and believed it.

Chronic pain has roots in your nervous system, not just your body. This is my story, and the framework behind it, in my upcoming book Cluster(ed) No More.

Cluster headaches have been part of my life since I was 17.

For a long time, that just meant living around them. Doctors, medications, every treatment protocol available. Some of it helped manage the attacks. None of it explained why they kept circling back around certain periods of my life more than others.

Eventually I started paying attention to the patterns. Not just what was happening in my body, but what was happening around it. A comment, a smell, a certain kind of silence, and the pain would follow, sometimes hours later. Once I could trace that thread back to something, the headaches stopped being random. They became something I could actually work with.

That shift, from managing symptoms to understanding what my body was actually responding to, is what changed things. Not overnight. But for the first time, in a way that made real sense.

I've spent the last years writing all of it down. The manuscript is over 50,000 words now, and it's been through a proofreader and a few outside reviewers, including a neurologists. One of them told me he'd found patterns in it he hadn't been aware of before, even in his own field. That mattered to me more than I expected.
