We are celebrating 🎉🤝 the launch of the Polish Network of Age-friendly Cities and Communities - together with Jolanta Sobieranska-Grenda Minister of Health, Marzena Okła-Drewnowicz Government Plenipotentiary for Senior Policy and Nino Berdzuli WHO Representative in Poland – marked as a milestone for Poland and the WHO European Region.
Polish Network is a part of the WHO Global Network for Age-friendly Cities and Communities, connecting over 1,700 cities in 57 countries, this initiative advances a shared vision: making communities better places to grow older.
This moment also highlights the critical role of regions and cities—where policies are implemented and where everyday environments shape how people age. From homes and communities to health systems and social spaces, age-friendly environments are key to enabling people to live healthier, more active, and more connected lives.
📊 With Poland facing rapid demographic change—by 2050, 1 in 3 people will be aged 65+—coordinated and forward-looking action is essential. The new national network, coordinated by Uniwersytet Jagielloński marks a shift from individual initiatives to a strong, collaborative national approach.
🤝 This network will:
✅ Strengthen cooperation across levels of governance
✅ Support the scaling up of good practices
✅ Connect local innovation with national policy and global knowledge
When we share knowledge, we build trust.
Every generation brings its own strengths, perspectives, and experiences—and inclusive societies benefit from all of them.
This initiative also contributes to advancing the WHO Regional Office for Europe “Ageing is Living” Strategy, translating global commitments into concrete action at the national and local level.
📅 On 19–20 May 2026, the World Health Organization Country Office in Poland together with Uniwersytet Jagielloński and Ministerstwo Zdrowia hosted launch events, including an official gala in Warsaw, where member cities and municipalities received their certificates, followed by the first Network’s meeting.
✨ The Polish Network stands as a bridge—across sectors, communities, and generations—and as an opportunity for Poland to lead innovation in age-friendly policies in the region.
Population ageing is not a challenge to fear, but an opportunity to build more resilient societies for all.
