Today—August 1st—marks Lughnasadh (also commonly called Lammas).
​It is one of the eight major festivals on the Pagan Wheel of the Year and marks the first of the three autumn harvest festivals (followed by Mabon at the Autumn Equinox and Samhain).

​What Lughnasadh / Lammas Represents
​The First Harvest: It is a celebration of the initial bounty of the earth—specifically grain, wheat, corn, and summer fruits.

​Honoring the Sun & Earth: In modern Wiccan traditions, it represents the turning point where the sun's power begins to wane, and the effort of planting turns into the reward of harvesting.

​Lugh (Celtic Tradition): In Celtic Paganism, the festival is named after the sun god Lugh, who traditionally established the festival as a funeral game and feast in honor of his foster mother, Tailtiu, who died of exhaustion clearing Ireland's fields for agriculture.

​Lammas (Anglo-Saxon Tradition): The name comes from "Loaf Mass," a historic agricultural tradition of baking the first loaf of bread from the newly harvested grain and offering it in blessing.

​How It Is Celebrated Today:
