Alcohol can affect far more than the liver. Regular drinking is linked with risks across the brain and body. 🧠

Research has associated alcohol use with:

• Heart disease and stroke risk
• Increased cancer risk
• Reduced brain volume and impaired brain function
• Anxiety, depression, and other mental health concerns
• Weakened immune function
• Greater risk of falls, accidents, and head injuries
• Digestive problems and gut inflammation
• Alcohol use disorder
• Fatty liver disease, hepatitis, and cirrhosis

Alcohol can also interfere with areas of the brain involved in memory, judgment, learning, and impulse control. Research cited in the article found that even moderate alcohol intake was associated with lower total brain volume.

The health effects of alcohol can build over time, which is why understanding the risks is an important part of protecting both brain and body health.
