SHIATSU & METAL

Metal phase is linked to the Autumn season.
Both metal meridians – Lung & Large Intestine, work together for exchange.
Metal phase in our own structure implies our ability to receive and transmit, to communicate with the environment, to change yet to remain ourselves.
Grief, nervousness, isolation, weakness and inability to let go/ move on, are the main emotions associated with metal energy.
Main physical symptoms of the metal energy imbalance are: pale skin, skin problems, bowel problems and tightness in the chest and round shoulders.

Factors affecting the Metal Element are: grief, loss, lack of exercises, smoking, air pollution and dry air.
SHIATSU therapy is very effective in balancing emotions and easing physical symptoms.

Lung & Large Intestine meridians treatment helps to improve the work of respiratory and digestive systems, and creates the space to let go all the accumulated tension and associated emotions in a safe and non-judgemental environment.

Autumn also means rain, rain and even more rain….
How are you doing in this rainy weather?
According to the traditional medicine, damp and cold can create stagnation in our bodies.
It leads to digestive problems, chest infections, and excessive phlegm and joints pains and stiffness.

To prevent health problems related to dampness try to:
– Avoid sweet foods and alcohol.
– Choose rich in aromatic spices hot soups and stews over the cold meals and raw salads.
– Eat more garlic, ginger and onion as they help to clear the dampness.
– Drink herbal teas (e.g. ginger, cardamom, cinnamon and cloves).

– Exercise regularly.
– Go to the sauna.
– Go for a SHIATSU.

SHIATSU & AUTUMN 🍁

Embracing Autumn's Gentle Flow

The feeling of fall should remind us of the relaxing, nourishing and warming elements of life.
Shiatsu can be like that; like a big, cozy hug for your body, mind and spirit.
It's not just about feeling good, it's about tapping into your body's natural rhythms to find balance and ease.
SHIATSU works with your body's channels,
your meridians.
Think of them as invisible highways where your life energy or Ki, cruises along. These pathways connect your organs, muscles and even your emotions, keeping everything humming in harmony.

When stress, late nights or life's chaos clog these highways, you might feel sluggish, achy or just "off".
SHIATSU swoops in like a friendly road crew, using gentle, but firm thumb and palm pressure to clear those blockages. It's not a rough knead- it's precise, soothing and relaxing, coaxing your nervous system into relax and reset mode. Your body shifts from "fight or flight" to 'rest and restore", leaving you feeling like you just took a much needed and well deserved nap.

Why is this extra special in autumn?
This season, with its golden leaves and cooler temps, vibes with the Metal element in traditional Eastern thought.
It's all about crisp clarity, letting go, and breathing deep. The stars of the show are the Lung and Large Intestine meridians- your dynamic duo for respiration and release. The Lungs pull in fresh energy with every breath, while the Large Intestine helps you let go of what's no longer needed (physically and emotionally). Fall's dry, cool air can make these channels a bit cranky, leading to stuffy noses, tight chests or even a touch of seasonal sadness.
SHIATSU keeps these pathways open, boosting your immunity, easing digestion and helping you shed summer's baggage like a tree dropping its leaves. It's your body's way of saying, "Let's get cozy and reset."
Shiatsu is eclectic and varied, helping people
from all walks of life feel better in their bodies.

The eyes are said to be the window of the soul.
In TCM, we say that you can see the quality of a person’s spirit, or Shen, by looking at their eyes.
Here are some common symptoms we see there, along with an explanation of how this may reflect what is happening in other parts of our systems.

Shining, bright, clear eyes ~ open spirit, strong vitality

Dull eyes ~ long term emotional struggles, long term drug use

Redness of eyes ~ viral or seasonal allergies , or related to high levels of stress and irritability

Yellowing of the whites ~ poor digestion or liver issues, such as jaundice

Spots in the visual field ~ Weakness of the constitution, the Blood and/or the body’s Yin: often caused by long term overwork and overthinking, a weakness of the body’s nourishing properties

Dark circles under the eyes / swelling or bags under the eyes ~ If blue in color, Deficiency of the Kidney: this relates to the deeper constitution. If yellow in color: Deficiency of the Spleen

In the world of TCM, the liver energy flows upward into the eyes. When this energy is flowing smoothly and working as it should, your vision is clear and sharp, you have efficient night vision and the eyes are bright and well-lubricated.

When out of balance, the liver can generate heat that rises upward. This heat can manifest in dry eyes, itchy eyes or eyes that are red and irritated. Think about how red one’s eyes can get after a night of drinking. Alcohol adds heat to the liver, which in turn rises upward and creates hot, red eyes. The facial flushing you see after a night of imbibing is also indicative of this heat.
When the liver blood is deficient, you will see symptoms of dryness throughout the body, particularly in the eyes. Dry, scratchy eyes are a sign of liver blood deficiency, and floaters (those little black spots that can appear in the periphery of your vision) are also indicative of this deficiency.

The physical touch in SHIATSU is used to assess the distribution of qi throughout the body and correct any imbalances.
By stimulating the person’s immune system SHIATSU can treat the body as a whole and help to restore physical functions of the nervous and circulatory systems, musculoskeletal structures, and internal organs.

"SHIATSU" translates as "finger pressure."

There are different styles of Shiatsu,
all of which have roots in one of three systems
that developed in Japan in the early 1900s
as a result of a resurgence of Japan's traditional medical therapies, including acupuncture and anma massage.
SHIATSU developed at this time from the integration of traditional Japanese manual therapies with modern western medical knowledge.

WEIGHT LOSS

SHIATSU aids weight loss by improving digestion, reducing stress, and promoting better sleep, which are all important for a balanced and efficient metabolism.
While it's not a direct weight loss treatment,
SHIATSU supports healthy eating and exercise by enhancing physical and mental well-being, making it a valuable complementary therapy to a weight loss plan.

Stress can lead to increased fat storage and overeating.
SHIATSU's stress-reducing effects help to create a more balanced body, making it easier to manage weight.

By promoting a relaxed and balanced state, SHIATSU can help improve digestion and increase metabolic efficiency, which is crucial for burning calories and processing nutrients.

Poor sleep is linked to hormonal imbalances, increased hunger, and obesity. SHIATSU helps quiet the mind and reduce anxiety, leading to deeper, more restorative sleep, which supports weight management.

SHIATSU decreases muscle soreness and increase flexibility, allowing you to get the most out of your workouts and recover more effectively.

SHIATSU's focus on the mind-body connection can help you become more attuned to your body's needs, which can be helpful in addressing emotional or stress-related overeating.

Remember that SHIATSU is a complementary therapy.
For successful weight loss, it must be combined with a healthy, calorie-controlled diet and regular physical activity.

Think of SHIATSU as a way to make your weight loss journey easier and more enjoyable by supporting your physical and mental health.
