Did you know Samuel Hahnemann wrote about the use of Belladonna during scarlet fever outbreaks in the early 1800s?

In 1801, Hahnemann documented an observation involving a child who was already receiving highly diluted Belladonna and remained well while other children in the household became ill. He subsequently offered small, repeated doses to other exposed children and reported that they also remained well.

Hahnemann selected Belladonna because its known symptom pattern closely resembled the particular scarlet fever presentation he was observing. This historical account became an important early example in the development of homeoprophylaxis.

During Homeoprophylaxis Awareness Week, we recognize the history of this approach while continuing to promote education, careful observation, informed choice, and professional supervision.
