✨Introduction to Somatic Bodywork✨

Coming Saturday, 4th of September, I will be offering a talk on Somatic Therapies, comparing and contrasting two of the most popular trauma-healing modalities:

Somatic Experiencing®
&
SOMA Embodiment®

We’ll explore how they approach nervous-system regulation, embodiment and trauma resolution.

Through practical experiential exercises, participants will learn simple tools for self-regulation and have the opportunity to experience how titration and pendulation can support a safe, gradual approach to working with activation.

I will also demonstrate how intentional, attuned touch can be used to support embodiment and deepen somatic awareness.

Saturday · 10:00–13:00
This session will be filmed for supervision purposes and shared with my supervisor.

🥤 13:00–14:00 — Community Pica Pica: If you’d like to stay, bring a healthy drink or snack to share.

📍 Location and registration details will be provided upon registration.

The workshop is gifted as part of Urban Burn, but registration is required and spaces are limited.

Come for the Introduction to Somatic Therapy, or combine it with the five SOMA Alchemy of Touch workshops from Monday–Friday. Participation in all six workshops forms Module 0 of the SOMA HEART training- the foundation for continuing into the full SOMA journey.

✨ MIND & Matter✨

Our society has been running for centuries on the mantra:

MIND OVER MATTER.

As if the mind were superior to the body.
As if thought could- and should- override flesh, sensation and instinct.

One of the philosophical milestones in this story was René Descartes’ distinction between
“res cogitans” the thinking thing,
and
“res extensa” extended matter…
Basically: Mind and body.

Whether Descartes himself was “dissociated” is certainly debatable. But his division of mind and matter contributed to a worldview that has profoundly shaped Western- and eventually global-culture.

A worldview in which the body became something to control, analyse and objectify, rather than something we inhabit and listen to.

This is one of the great ironies of modern life:

We know more about the body than ever…yet many of us are increasingly disconnected from the experience of being in one!

Somatic practices offer an alternative:

Not mind over body,
but an invitation to experience the mind through the body…and the body as an integral part of consciousness.

This is also at the heart of SOMA Healing.

Soma is not simply matter. It is the living, sensing body- the body as experienced from within.

We don’t actually need to reconnect mind and body-
they were never separate.

What we need is simply to remember what we are:

✨SOMA✨

Mind AND matter.
Body AND consciousness.

✨Sun & Moon✨

As we experienced the enchanting total solar eclipse in Spain, we entered a rare celestial threshold- where Sun and Moon meet in a specific relation to the earth, so that the light of the sun is veiled by the presence of the moon- noticeable in certain regions of the world.

Symbolically, this planetary event can be interpreted as a recalibration of power between the feminine and masculine principle.

Agni- the fire, the solar force, the masculine principle Yang- burns brightly in this Year of the Fire Horse.
Yet it is the Moon, the dark, the receptive, the feminine principle Yin or Soma, that holds the capacity to interrupt, to soften, to turn the course.

An eclipse is not dominance.
It is the feminine meeting the masculine- and changing it!

This year is framed by two solar eclipses-one last week… and one to come August 2027, in Southern Spain & Gibraltar, where we will gather for a SOMA Eclipse retreat.

In a world still shaped by patriarchal control of mind over matter and culture over nature, these eclipses remind us:
true transformation does not come from force-
but from an organic intelligence-

From the mystery.
From the body.
From SOMA.

✨SOMA Alchemy✨From Darkness to Light✨

This 2hr workshop invites you into a sacred process of embodiment- gently digesting what has been stirred, revealed, and transformed over the past days, and especially through the eclipse.

With the help of the SOMA Method, you will be guided to bring awareness to the still obscure places within, alchemising the unknown into clarity, presence, and embodied power. We begin with a ritual of self-massage to awaken the fascia and open the emotional body, followed by a deeper somatic journey, with space for sharing, reflection, and integration.

✨AI & EQ✨

For a long time, IQ (Intelligence Quotient)- how we analyse, think & understand patterns- was seen as the only form of intelligence.

In 1983, Howard Gardner challenged this with Multiple Intelligences, paving the way for EQ, later popularised by Daniel Goleman (1995).

He described EQ as:
• self-awareness
• self-regulation
• motivation
• empathy
• social skills

Some people- like psychologists (but also psychopaths)- can score high in parts of EQ.

They can name your patterns, your wounds, your psychology.

And now — so can AI.

It can reflect your words, recognise patterns,
and respond in emotionally attuned ways.

This is a form of EQ.
But it’s cognitive.

AI (and psychopaths) can understand you.
But they don’t feel you.

That’s why it’s important to differentiate within EQ:

Cognitive empathy (CE)
understanding emotions
vs.
Somatic intelligence (SI)
feeling them in the body

SI is your ability to sense heartbeat, breath, tension, subtle shifts.
In neuroscience: “Interoception”

It’s the foundation of embodied empathy.

Not just: “I understand you”
but: “I can feel with you.”

Without this, empathy can be accurate
but not truly relational.

AI can only simulate attunement.
But a human nervous system can offer it.

In SOMA Healing, this matters.

Because healing isn’t just insight-
it’s resonance, attunement, and co-regulation.

A somatic practitioner doesn’t just understand your story-
they meet you with a regulated nervous system.

Through presence, tone, and pacing,
your body begins to feel safe… and shift.

That’s not cognitive-
it’s biological.

AI can support awareness.
But it cannot co-regulate your nervous system.

So the question isn’t
AI vs therapist.

It’s understanding their roles:

One can guide insight.
The other can hold transformation.

And SOMA Healing is where both meet-
grounded in the kind of intelligence
that isn’t artificial,

but embodied.

✨Testimonial from Karen (22.07.2026)✨

“I recently started working with Shirin, and have found her SOMA Healing work to be incredibly powerful.

I have done extensive somatic work before, so was expecting it to take a long time to see results, given that I had to get to know her.
But already during the very first session I was having huge releases that were incredibly healing. It was amazing how easy it was to access those deep emotions, and I credit the work, as well as the grounded space she is able to hold for clients. I am very discerning about practitioners, as I am an energy healing practitioner myself, but found I immediately felt safe with Shirin.

I have only seen her for a handful of sessions, but have already noticed big shifts in my daily life in some areas that I have worked many years on. I am thrilled to be making art daily, which has been a big struggle for me, and feeling so much flow in my life in general since starting our sessions.

To anyone thinking of working with Shirin, I would say do not hesitate...I highly recommend her and her services.”

Thank you dear for sharing your experience with SOMA Healing

♂︎ ☯︎ ♀︎

Before patriarchy, there were thousands of years of cultures often described as matriarchal- where women held central roles in guiding the tribe.

This didn’t mean domination or power over others.

It meant something very different from what we see today:
leadership rooted in relationship,
in cycles,
in the wisdom of the body and the land.

Life was organised around:
connection rather than control,
community rather than hierarchy,
attunement rather than force.

With the rise of patriarchy, this orientation shifted.

Mind was placed above matter.
Control over connection.
Linear over cyclical.

And slowly, we lost touch with something fundamental:

the Soma.

The part of us that knows through sensation,
through felt sense,
through deep inner listening.

What I call the “feminine” is not about being a woman.

It’s an orientation-
one that is closer to how these earlier, more matriarchal cultures related to life:

Embodied.
Relational.
Responsive.

This is why I connect Soma with feminine leadership.

It reflects a way of leading that is attuned rather than dominating.

What we’re witnessing now is a return.

Through somatics, trauma work, and reconnection with nature,
we are remembering how to include the body again.

Not instead of the mind-
but alongside it.

The future isn’t about replacing patriarchy with matriarchy.

It’s about restoring balance.

Where leadership can feel.
Where decisions include the health of the body and all nature.
Where intelligence is not only cognitive-
but embodied.

✨YIN & SOMA✨

Yin represents the receptive, cool, dark, moist, and inward-moving pole to the Yang principle in Traditional Chinese philosophy & medicine. It governs rest, depth, substance, and the capacity to receive and store life energy (Qi).

In early Vedic texts, Soma is both a sacred plant/elixir and a deity- associated with vitality, nourishment, and the subtle essence that animates life and its complimentary principle Agni.

In later philosophical and somatic interpretations, Soma points to the felt, embodied intelligence of the body- the inner flow of sensation, restoration, and integration.

Across these traditions, we find striking structural similarities:

• Soma & Yin → cooling, nourishing, inward, lunar
• Agni & Yang → heating, transforming, outward, solar

Though arising from different cosmologies, Soma and Yin converge in several key ways:

• Receptivity over force — both emphasize allowing rather than imposing
• Subtle nourishment — they operate through restoration, not stimulation
• Embodied knowing — truth is felt, not abstracted
• Cyclical intelligence — honoring rhythms of rest, integration, and renewal

However, while these correspondences are compelling, historical evidence does not confirm that Chinese Yin–Yang theory is derived from Vedic Soma–Agni cosmology.

Rather, they appear as independent articulations of a shared human insight:
that life unfolds through the rhythmic interplay of activation and restoration, fire and fluid, expansion and contraction.

✨Soma & Food✨

In Ayurveda- the classical medical science of India- Soma is understood not merely as a substance, but as a fundamental principle underlying healing and wellbeing.

It embodies qualities of nourishment, cooling, cohesion, and subtle vitality- the forces that sustain and restore the body. Nutrition rich in Soma support immunity, stability, and a deeper sense of ease within the system.

Food, in this context, is not just caloric intake. It is a primary vehicle for cultivating Soma within the body.

The way food is selected, combined, and prepared directly influences whether it builds:
– Soma (nourishment, softness, resilience)
or
– Agni imbalance (irritation, depletion, instability)

Ayurvedic meal preparation is therefore highly intentional:
🥗Fresh, seasonal ingredients are preferred for their prāṇic (life-force) value
🫕Gentle cooking methods (stewing, steaming, slow cooking) preserve and enhance Soma
🥑 Use of fats like ghee supports lubrication and assimilation
🌿 Spices are not added for flavor alone, but to regulate Agni (digestive fire), ensuring food can be transformed into nourishment rather than into toxins.

In Ayurvedic pharmacology, the same principles apply:
Herbal preparations are rarely given in isolation-
they are combined with specific carriers such as ghee, honey, or warm milk to:
– guide absorption
– enhance bioavailability
– and direct the substance deeper into the tissues

This is Soma in practice:
not just what is taken, but how it is prepared and delivered to the body.

From this perspective, eating can be a healing and alchemical process.

The kitchen is not separate from the clinic.
Cooking is not separate from medicine.
