Supplementation behind the scenes. ⚽🌍

A small look at the supplementation work during the tournament.

Matchdays.
Training sessions.
Hotel routines.
Stock management.
Recovery moments.

Sports drinks, gels, caffeine, beetroot shots, protein, creatine, tart cherry and other tools — all planned with purpose, timing and player preferences in mind.

Not everything is used by every player.
But everything needs to be ready.

A big thank you to everyone who helped make this work possible, and especially to for the support throughout this journey.

Together we rise. 🇬🇭⚽

People that make the work possible. 🇬🇭⚽

Now it starts to feel more emotional...

Some of the most important work does not start with a protocol. It starts with people.

The way we speak.
The way we listen.
The way we respect each other.
The way we build trust.

Without these, nothing really happens.

Football is not only about protocols, logistics or performance.

It is about knowing the people you work with, listening to them and building something together.

Along the way, I had the privilege of meeting excellent people who made this journey even more special.

Thank you to every person who was part of it.

Together we rise. 🇬🇭⚽

Thank you, Ghana. 🇬🇭

Thank you for all the support, love and kindness during this journey.

It was a privilege to work with the Ghana National Team — a group full of talent, character and good people.

We wanted more.
We deserved more.

I’ll always be grateful for this experience.

Together we rise. 🇬🇭⚽

World Cup supplementation ⚽🌍

Preparing for a major competition with only a few days in advance does not allow you to change everything. And that is an important lesson.

At this level, supplementation is not about adding more products or forcing perfect protocols. It is about understanding the context.

Recovery between games becomes a priority.
Supporting the players with higher match loads becomes a priority.
Supporting injured players, or those dealing with pain or soreness, also becomes a priority.

But there is another key point: respecting the players.

Their preferences.
Their habits.
Their willingness to use something.

Sometimes, there is no point in insisting too much and creating unnecessary stress.

The best scientific strategy is not always stronger than a player’s habits, beliefs or comfort — especially during a tournament.

Not every player takes creatine every day. Not every player uses beetroot shots before matches. Not every player drinks tart cherry after games. Not every player takes a protein shake after training. And that is okay. Even when we know that some athletes could potentially benefit, the best plan is still the one that fits the player.

So the goal is not to control everything.

The goal is to plan what makes sense, offer the right options, educate when possible, and respect the player in front of you.

Because in tournament football, the best strategy is the one that makes sense for the player, the context and the moment.

In football, the supplements that usually make the most sense are the ones with a clear purpose:

Carbohydrates / sports drinks — fuel and recovery
Energy gels — quick fuel during match demands
Electrolytes — hydration support
Protein — muscle repair and recovery
Creatine — strength, power and repeated efforts
Beta-alanine — repeated high-intensity efforts
Caffeine — focus, alertness and matchday performance
Beetroot juice / nitrates — performance support
Tart cherry — recovery support
Blackcurrant extract — recovery and antioxidant support
Pickle juice — cramp support when needed

Sharing the journey. 🇬🇭⚽🌍

Over the last 6 weeks, I have been sharing a small part of my journey working in football nutrition at the World Cup.

As a nutritionist with 10 years of experience, I have always felt that we don’t share enough about what happens behind the scenes.

Is it because we don’t have enough time?
Because some details need to stay private?
Because we are afraid of showing too much?
Or because we don’t always realise how useful it can be for others?

The dressing room setup.
The player options.
Fuel and hydration timing.
Recovery strategies.
The small details that support performance.

I also recognise that at this level, some details must remain confidential.

But sharing a dressing room setup does not reveal any real secret. If you are aware of the best available scientific evidence, you already understand many of the key strategies that should be in place.

Energy gels, caffeine pills, beetroot shots, sports drinks, fruit, gums, recovery shakes — every club and national team has access to these tools.

The real difference is not only what is available.

It’s how well the plan is built.
How clearly the players understand it.
How trust and empathy are built with the players.
How players make the right choices at the right moments — because in the end, that is what makes the difference.

Because football nutrition is not only about products, supplements or perfectly organised setups.
It is about education, timing, logistics, communication, trust and the ability to adapt under pressure.

If this journey helps even one nutritionist, student or colleague, then sharing it’s already worth it.

And I truly believe that when we share with good intentions, something always comes back to us.
Whether we call it luck, opportunity or something else, it has always found its way back to me.

Maybe it comes from the values I grew up with — sharing, cooperation and the desire to help others, without expecting anything in return.
Values from my parents and my family that have always shaped the way I live, work and build my career.
