Why don't we practice Ashtanga on Moon Days?
In the Ashtanga Yoga tradition, the phases of the moon are believed to influence our energy and, in turn, the way we experience our practice.
During the Full Moon, energy is thought to be more expansive, which may lead us to push beyond our natural limits. During the New Moon, energy turns inward, encouraging rest, introspection, and recovery.
For this reason, these days are traditionally observed as days of rest—not as a break from the practice, but as an essential part of it.
By honouring these natural cycles, we cultivate a more mindful and sustainable practice while reducing the risk of injury caused by overexertion or by overlooking the body's limits.
✨ At Sattva, we honour this tradition because we believe that growth also comes from knowing when to rest.
