Hadassah participated in an oncology trial whose results have stunned the medical world!

Moderna and Merck have reported that, for the first time, a personalized mRNA-based neoantigen therapy has demonstrated positive, statistically significant results in a Phase 3 clinical trial. Hadassah, a global leader in personalized cancer treatment, was among the medical centers that participated in the trial.

“Patients from our Sharett Institute of Oncology who were diagnosed with melanoma took part in this international trial”, says Dr. Jonathan Cohen, Director of the Oncology Clinical Trials Unit at Hadassah. “Unlike vaccines against COVID-19, this treatment targets cancer cells that originate within the body rather than an external pathogen. This presents a significant challenge: the immune system must recognize the cancer as foreign without attacking healthy cells. Achieving this requires a level of personalized medicine that, until now, the medical world has not been able to provide”.

“The treatment works by genetically sequencing a sample of each patient’s tumor and identifying its unique mutations by comparing them with the genome of healthy blood cells from the same patient. The vaccine is not an off-the-shelf product. It is individually manufactured for each patient through a process that requires the transatlantic shipment of samples, extensive laboratory work, and the subsequent production and shipment of the personalized treatment back to the patient, all on a large scale”, explains Dr. Cohen.

“Here at Hadassah, we are now recruiting patients to receive treatments based on the same approach for lung cancer, as well as patients with metastatic melanoma who have not yet received treatment for their disease. Similar vaccines are being studied across a range of other cancer types, and we hope that these treatments will also become available to our patients at Hadassah in the future”.

Prostia nu este doar o chestiune de intelect, de gîndire, de „procese cognitive“. Altminteri n‑am avea atîția proști cu IQ ridicat și persoane inteligente care spun sau fac lucruri prostești.

Cea mai fascinantă este prostia oamenilor foarte inteligenți sau chiar geniali: ei au la dispoziție remarcabile resurse intelectuale pentru a persista în cine știe ce gogomănie care le‑a intrat în cap. Hadassah Nurse Saved a Life on a Flight Back to Israel ✈️💙
Avivit Eliyahu, a veteran nurse at Hadassah Medical Center on Mount Scopus, was returning to Israel from a 12 day jeep tour in Ethiopia when a dramatic incident occurred during the flight home.
Mid flight, the flight attendants made an announcement over the intercom asking if there was a doctor or nurse on board. Avivit did not hesitate for a moment and immediately stood up to help. “I got up right away. It’s instinct. I’m a nurse everywhere, even on vacation,” she recounts.
A passenger, approximately 75 years old, who was seated a few rows ahead of her, was unconscious and was apparently suffering from partial choking after food entered his airway. His pulse had weakened and was barely palpable.
Without medical equipment and under complex conditions, Avivit immediately began life saving measures. She laid him down on as stable a surface as possible, cleared secretions, checked his pulse, and began chest compressions in an effort to relieve the obstruction. After several minutes that felt like an eternity, the man opened his eyes and showed signs of life.
Throughout the remainder of the flight until landing, Avivit continued to monitor his condition and did not leave his side.
Avivit has 38 years of experience at Hadassah, most of them in the maternity department.
“At Hadassah, regular resuscitation courses and refreshers are held. In moments like these, every drill saves lives. Literally.”
With her characteristic modesty, she concluded:
“I simply did what needed to be done. I’m a nurse.”
