There was never any doubt in my mind: I'm hopelessly in love with autumn. I may be exhausted, because it's one of the busiest times of the year, but I always find the energy and enthusiasm to enjoy quality time with friends, good food, amazing events and nature. This weekend I was once again reminded of the saying "Banatu-i fruncea". It may not always be the case or some may disagree, but to me it is. When in doubt, come taste our food, cruise up and down our Bega, drink our w**e or walk the streets of Timișoara. It'll get to you. I promise. It's home.

The "round tuit" tour: Karin and I were supposed to meet back in 2020 and follow the footsteps of her Ureche, Muntean, Sarafolean and Foale ancestors spread out over the entire Banat area (both Romania and Serbia). Then covid happened, and instead I did the research and put together the family tree, still hoping that some day we'd actually meet. In 2021 Karin attended my online genealogy conference hosted by the Romanian Genealogy Society of Minnesota and started planning her way back to the Old Country. Several failed attempts later, we finally got a "round tuit" in 2026 and made it happen. I've spent the last days together with Karin and her daughter Kym, visiting Timișoara. Rusko Selo in Serbia, Sânnicolau Mare and Comloșu Mare. Talking about the Revolution, Romanian and Banat culture, the Zmed family, the infamous "woman in red", visiting old Orthodox churches and landmarks erected by American Banaters, sharing music and laughter. It's been a hell of a week and we all now feel more like family then tour guide and guests. I highly encourage descendants to take their time, plan in advance, and spend at least one week here. I'm sure you'll feel it's worth it.

A bishop finally returned to the Bishops’ Bridge. ✨

Built in 1913, the bridge was originally designed to feature four bishops of the former Diocese of Cenad and later Timișoara: Saint Gerhard/Gellért (the first bishop of the Diocese of Cenad, established 1030), Lonovics József, Dessewffy Sándor and Kőszeghy László. World War One and the fall of empires and monarchies had other plans, and the sculptures never made it to Timișoara from Budapest where they had initially been commissioned.

More than a century later, contemporary artist Aurelian Scorobete brings Saint Gerhard back to the bridge — as part of Regatta Bega / Timișoara Port Cultural.

History meets contemporary art, right above the Bega. 💫

𝐒𝐚̂𝐦𝐛𝐚̆𝐭𝐚̆ 𝐝𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐚𝐭̗𝐚 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐦 𝐁𝐞𝐠𝐚 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐧 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐮𝐥 𝐚 𝐝𝐨𝐮𝐚̆ 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭̗𝐢𝐞𝐢 𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐞 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐬̗𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐚 𝐬̗𝐢 𝐚𝐩𝐚̆.💧

Pe 19 septembrie vă invităm la două tururi ghidate organizate în două locuri pe lângă care trecem des, însă în care ajungem mult mai rar să intrăm.

De la 10:00 mergem în Turnul de Apă din Iosefin, redeschis în această vară după restaurare. Alături de Alexandra Irimia (Timisoara Tour Guide) și echipa Ecluze pe Bega vom urca prin interiorul turnului, pe lângă rezervoarele originale păstrate, până la platforma de belvedere. De acolo se vede Iosefinul, orașul și, bineînțeles, Bega. Turnul a fost construit în 1914 și făcea parte din sistemul modern de alimentare cu apă al Timișoarei de la începutul secolului XX.

La 12:00 continuăm pe mal la Centrala Hidroelectrică denumită popular de timișoreni „Turbine”. Intrăm în clădirea proiectată de László Székely, în sala turbinelor și vedem de aproape instalațiile care au produs energie pentru oraș timp de mai bine de un secol. Centrala a fost pusă în funcțiune în 1910, păstrând printre instalațiile originale turbinele Francis Triple realizate de Ganz Danubius Budapesta.

Două locuri foarte diferite, legate de aceeași poveste a Timișoarei care a învățat să folosească apa și să construiască în jurul ei. Ambele tururi sunt gratuite, pe bază de înscriere, în limita locurilor disponibile. Lăsăm linkurile de înscriere în comentarii. 🌊

Deal or no deal? This year's highlight for me was being on the set of this show (Batem palma? in Romanian) alongside so many lovely people and their amazing life stories. Truly an inspiration and a way of exploring new interests and boundaries for me. If only I had realized earlier that showbiz was the way to go for me 🤩 To be resumed...in the meantime you can watch me Mon-Fri on ProTv and Voyo at 6pm for witty banter and attempted funny comments 😆

Ready to face your fears? A place that's been closed for ages is opening its doors to the community tomorrow.

Climb through the narrow staircases of Timișoara's 1914 water tower, step inside its historic water chambers, and, if you're brave enough, walk across a glass platform high above the city.

Tomorrow marks the grand opening of this extraordinary new vertical cultural venue, and Heritage of Timișoara and yours truly will be leading 5 guided tours throughout the day (via previous registration).
