Some Physicians are proud when not to mark before gaining aesthetic access into their patients’ skin, either by injections or thread insertions.
In my opinion, we have to mark our fields whenever this is possible. Causes for this point of view is that marking will keep your mind attentive to vital structures that you have to avoid, will guide you to your target area/level of injection/insertion, in addition to precisely discovering asymmetries that do exist in a large section of Aesthetic Clinics attendants.
Keep in mind that marking your field of work must be done with a ruler or a suitable graded scale & this tool must be handled using disinfection guidelines. Add to your knowledge that your marker must be a non-tattooing, non-irritant, properly disinfected tool.
I also strongly recommend guiding your hands using anatomical landmarks on your patient’s body, however these landmarks must be assessed for symmetry before you start (e.g. to use the alae nasi as landmark, we have to make sure that they are placed symmetrically on either sides as some people will have a higher or lower from a certain horizontal plane, farer or nearer to midline or even smaller or bigger ala nasi on one side than the other!)
