has performed Saudi Arabia’s first Laser Interstitial Thermal Therapy (LITT) procedure, expanding treatment options for selected patients with drug-resistant focal epilepsy and certain brain tumours. The minimally invasive procedure uses real-time MRI guidance to direct thermal energy precisely to the targeted tissue and may serve as an alternative to open surgery in appropriate cases.

Riyadh successfully used robotic technology for deep brain stimulation surgery to treat movement disorders for the first time in the Middle East and North Africa. The robot enabled the surgical team to plan the path and guide the placement of stimulation electrodes inside the brain with high precision, while reducing the manual planning steps and procedures involved in traditional surgery.

Jeddah has developed and implemented the world’s first protocol of its kind, using an algorithm to predict with exceptional accuracy how many stem cells can be collected from each donor. The protocol enabled stem cell collection to be completed in the first session for all male donors, and for 94.9% of donors overall, while eliminating the need for third and fourth collection sessions entirely.
