THE fifth China Medical Team (CMT) visited Malaita Province last week and provided free specialist healthcare services to hundreds of people.
The team arrived in Malaita and conducted a three-day clinical outreach programme at Kiluโ€™ufi Hospital from July 27-30.

The President of the Affiliated Hospital of Guizhou Medical University of China has assured that in upholding the vision of a global community of health for all, the hospital will continue to deepen exchanges and cooperation with Solomon Islands in the medical and health sector under the framework of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Solomon Islands.

President Zuo Shi made the assurance on Friday 26 June 2026 at a seminar between a visiting Solomon Islands media delegation and the Guizhou Medical Universityโ€™s Affiliated Hospital in Guiyang, the capital of Guizhou Province.

โ€œTodayโ€™s seminar has made us profoundly aware of how much media friends from the Solomon Islands cherish the China-Solomon Islands friendship and value our medical and health cooperation. Though thousands of miles apart, China and Solomon Islands are closely bound by the ties of friendship,โ€ he said.

Zuo said in upholding the vision of a global community of health for all, the Affiliated Hospital of Guizhou Medical University will continue to deepen exchanges and cooperation with Solomon Islands in the medical and health sector under the framework of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Solomon Islands.

โ€œThrough various approaches, including mentor-apprentice training programmes, specialist discipline development and academic exchanges, we will strive to cultivate more local medical talents for Solomon Islands and foster a permanent local workforce that will never leave the country.โ€

THE partnership between the Affiliated Hospital of the Guizhou Medical University of China, and Solomon Islands National Referral Hospital has been hailed as one of the most practical and meaningful pillars of the Solomon Islands-China bilateral cooperation.

In his remarks during a visit by a Solomon Islands media delegation to the Guizhou Medical Universityโ€™s Affiliated Hospital in Guiyang, the capital of Chinaโ€™s Guizhou Province on Friday 26 June 2026, head of delegation and Deputy Special Secretary to the Prime Minister (DSSPM) Barnabas Henson said, โ€˜The health cooperation stands as one of the finest examples of this partnership.โ€

Henson highlighted that this partnership is currently delivering tangible benefits to people in Solomon Islands whilst strengthening the enduring friendship between the two nations.

โ€œThe results speak for themselves. Together, the China Medical Teams that have been in Solomon Islands have delivered, according to our records, more than 23, 000 medical consultations, nearly 16,000 acupuncture treatments and have performed more than 190 minimally invasive urological surgeries and introduced specialist procedures that were previously unavailable in Solomon Islands,โ€ he emphasised.

โ€œSince the first China Medical Team (CMT) arrived in Solomon Islands in 2022, it is now the fifth team currently on the ground, serving our country by providing much-needed specialist expertise that has strengthened healthcare.

โ€œEqually important has been the transfer of knowledge and skills to local doctors, nurses and aligned health professionals and we are so proud that we have three sitting here with us today, which is helping to build a stronger and more resilient national health system for Solomon Islands,โ€ he added.

Henson also hailed the Solomon Islands-China bilaterial relations as a comprehensive strategic partnership founded on mutual respect, practical cooperation and shared development aspirations.

He then conveyed โ€œsincereโ€ gratitude on behalf of the Solomon Islands Prime Minister, government and people to the government of Guizhou Province, the Affiliated Hospital of Guizhou Medical University and every member of the China Medical Teams that have served in Solomon Islands for their dedication, professionalism and friendship.

โ€œWe look forward to deepening the relationship in specialist medicine, medical education, research, innovation and health workforce development for many years to come.
