Autohemotherapy in veterinary clinical practice:

Autohemotherapy, a proven therapeutic strategy against wide ranging disorders in animals primarily aims to boost the innate immune system with the patient’s own blood Aseptically collected blood sample is injected IM/SC/ID. The IM route is
often preferred. Wide ranging biochemical entities in the patient’s own blood, namely antigens, hormones, antibodies, and biodegradation products of metabolism are re-administered to provide a quantum boost to the immune system ، Recognising the circulatory biomarkers of disease, the immune system launches an intense counter-attack . Therefore, autohemotherapy per se, or complimentary therapy is highly beneficial in the treatment of wide ranging autoimmune and infectious diseases in livestock. This costeffective, multi-action protocol can be conveniently applied in the field.

Autohemotherapy procedures:-

After proper preparation with shaving and cleaning of the area, the patient’s own blood is collected through IV puncture and injected through the selected route, the dose and frequency based on the clinical judgment. In canine parvovirus infection, for example, body weight up to 5 kg, 2.5 ml; 5-10 kg, 5 ml; 10-15 kg, 7.5 ml; over 15 kg weight, 10 ml

Enucleation in pets :

In some cases, the eye is not savable (trauma, laceration, perforation, cancer) or the eye remains painful despite the medical or surgical treatment (glaucoma, uveitis). In these cases, the removal of the eyeball and the closure of the eyelids represent the best alternative for the animal. This surgical procedure is called enucleation. It is performed under general anesthesia. The animal will be under anti-inflammatory, antibiotic and pain medication for few days and the skin sutures will be removed about 12-14 days later.

Causes
1. *Insulin deficiency*: Pancreatic damage or dysfunction.

3. *Obesity*: Excess weight contributes to insulin resistance.
4. *Age*: Middle-aged to senior cats (8-12 years).
5. *Genetics*: Certain breeds (e.g., Burmese, Siamese).
6. *Other health issues*: Pancreatitis, Cushing's disease, or hyperthyroidism.

Symptoms
1. *Increased thirst and urination*: Excessive water consumption and urination.
2. *Weight loss*: Despite increased appetite.
3. *Increased appetite*: Polyphagia (excessive hunger).
4. *Cloudy or sweet-smelling urine*: Glucose in urine.
5. *Lethargy*: Weakness or depression.
6. *Poor coat condition*: Dull, thin, or matted fur.
7. *Skin infections*: Recurrent skin infections.

Diagnosis
1. *Physical examination*: Veterinary check-up.
2. *Blood tests*: Glucose levels, complete blood count (CBC).
3. *Urine tests*: Glucose, ketones, and protein levels.
4. *Fasting blood glucose test*: Measures glucose levels after fasting.

Treatment
1. *Insulin therapy*: Administering insulin injections.
2. *Dietary changes*: Feeding a balanced, high-protein diet.
3. *Weight management*: Achieving and maintaining ideal weight.
4. *Monitoring*: Regular blood glucose checks.
5. *Oral hypoglycemics*: Medications to regulate blood sugar.

Complications
1. *Ketoacidosis*: Life-threatening condition due to high ketone levels.
2. *Hypoglycemia*: Low blood sugar.
3. *Infections*: Bacterial or fungal infections.

4DR:-

1_ define the problem.
-2 define the system .
3- define the location.
4- define the lesion.
5- Refine the lesion.
