The research group convened a scientific session this week, on Monday, 11 May 2026, in Cairo, dedicated to diabetes research. The opening speaker, Professor : Hisham Abdel Rahim, delivered a concise and insightful presentation on diabetes mellitus, highlighting the latest diagnostic investigations, modern approaches to patient follow-up, and recently developed therapeutic agents used in diabetes management.

This was followed by a presentation by Professor : Abbasher Hussein, who reviewed a scientific study examining the relationship between peripheral neuropathy, diabetic macular edema, and the renal complications associated with diabetes. The study — a doctoral dissertation by Dr. Amal Hassan under the supervision of Prof. Abbasher Hussein — demonstrated a strong correlation between these complications, the prolonged duration of diabetes, poor glycemic control, and inadequate management of blood glucose levels.

The session witnessed a remarkable attendance and active scholarly engagement from Prof. Ahmed El-Gamal, Dr. Abdel Moneim Mohamed Ahmed, Dr. Abdel Moneim Banqa, Dr. Salah Abdel Karim, Dr. Shehab, Dr. Neamat, Dr. Youssef, and Dr. Mostafa Mohamed Ahmed.

Contributions from medical students and recently graduated physicians also played a significant role in enriching the discussion through thoughtful questions and scientific observations, reflecting their growing interest in medical research and the challenges posed by diabetes and its complications.
