For more than 50 years the Society’s expertise has been used to teach clinicians how to manage lipid disorders and how to prevent atherosclerosis.

The European Atherosclerosis Society (EAS) was founded in 1964 with the aim of “advancing and exchanging knowledge concerning the causes, natural history, treatment and prevention of atherosclerotic disease”. By offering to our members access to educational materials, and opportunities to take part in Congress and courses, and by providing a forum in which new developments can be discussed, EAS co

ntributes to the development of knowledge in the field, and ultimately to the improved treatment of persons with cardiovascular disease and lipid disorders. The European Atherosclerosis Society’s goal is to provide a framework for concerted scientific and clinical discussion of new developments in basic research, diagnosis and therapy of atherosclerosis. EAS is active in the publication of Guidelines and Consensus Position Papers, and its official Journal is Atherosclerosis. Through a regular series of Featured Commentaries EAS puts into perspective topical issues of relevance to our members. The Society organizes an annual Congress for approximately 2000 delegates, and runs a programme of Advanced Courses for both basic scientists and clinicians. EAS Academy is the Society's online e-Learning resource, containing a range of educational material and self-teaching programmes.

How do we beat atherosclerosis? In this special EAS Stage session, we bring together three rising scientists tackling that single question from completely different angles. Dr Soheil Saeedi (University of Zurich) explores cardiovascular aging and how a gut microbial metabolite can drive endothelial senescence. Dr Cesare Canepari (San Raffaele Telethon Institute for Gene Therapy) makes the case for gene therapy and genome editing to actually cure familial hypercholesterolemia. Dr Berkan Kurt (University Hospital Aachen) brings the clinician-scientist's perspective on inflammation, hsCRP, and emerging biomarkers, straight from the bedside. This weekend, EAS President, Prof. Børge Nordestgaard participated in the American Society for Preventive Cardiology (ASPC) Congress on CVD Prevention, where he presented the European perspective on "What's New in the Guidelines."

It was a valuable opportunity to exchange knowledge and discuss the latest advances in cardiovascular disease prevention across different regions of the world. Such international dialogue is essential for sharing best practices and advancing patient care globally.
