Alzecure is a non-profit research foundation with funding initially from donations and grants from individuals, non-profit organizations and governments.

AlzeCure develops new innovative drug therapies for the treatment of severe diseases and conditions that affect the central nervous system, such as Alzheimer’s disease and pain – indications for which currently available treatment is very limited. The objective of Alzecure Foundation is to enhance scientific research in age related diseases, primarily Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerativ

e conditions, with the aim to develop new therapies, diagnostics, treatments and medical technologies. We develop innovative therapies for the treatment of Alzheimer ́s disease and related neurodegenerative disorders, as well as unique medical technologies that will enable us to detect and monitor treatment effect in patients. The Phase Ib clinical study of ACD856, the lead drug candidate in the NeuroRestore platform being developed for Alzheimer's disease and other indications, has been completed on schedule with positive results.

AlzeCure has previously obtained key clinical data showing that ACD856 crosses into the brain at relevant concentrations and activates neural pathways important for both cognition and depression. This supports the ongoing development program for the drug candidate as an oral treatment for Alzheimer's disease and other indications.

“The fact that the study progressed according to plan is excellent news, and we see that a wide therapeutic window further strengthens our commercial opportunities for this promising compound, including in other areas with very high unmet medical needs, such as depression," said Martin Jönsson, CEO of AlzeCure Pharma.

Lilly adds to neuroscience portfolio with $1bn AlzeCure Alzheimer's pact

The Swedish biotech is set to receive $10 million upfront plus milestones and royalties in global licensing agreement for gamma-secretase modulator ACD680.

AlzeCure Pharma is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing small molecule drug candidates for central nervous system (CNS) diseases with a focus on Alzheimer's disease and pain. The firm has entered into a collaboration and out-licensing agreement with Eli Lilly for the global rights to its Alzheimer's project Alzstatin ACD680.

AlzeCure will receive an upfront payment of $10 million, with the potential for development and commercial milestones plus tiered mid-single digit royalties on sales. The total deal value – excluding royalty payments – may exceed $1 billion.

Biospace: Lilly bets up to $1B+ with AlzeCure in search for next Alzheimer’s act

The star of the licensing agreement, a small-molecule gamma-secretase modulator, will help buff Eli Lilly’s position in Alzheimer’s disease, currently headlined by its anti-amyloid antibody Kisunla.

Lilly is keeping its spending spree going, this time investing in a back-loaded Alzheimer’s disease deal with Swedish biotech AlzeCure Pharma.

The alliance will involve $10 million in cash from the pharma, as well as unspecified development and commercial milestone payments, resulting in a total deal that could top $1 billion. AlzeCure will also be eligible for tiered mid-single-digit royalties on sales, according to the press release.

The centerpiece of the licensing agreement is ACD680, a small-molecule modulator of the gamma-secretase enzyme that works by lowering the production of Aβ42, a pathologic form of amyloid-beta that acts as the building blocks of characteristic Alzheimer’s plaques in the brain. ACD680 also helps boost the production of shorter forms of amyloid-beta that don’t contribute to the toxic clumps.

Gamma-secretase modulators such as ACD680 have a “strong genetic link” to Alzheimer’s disease, AlzeCure CSO Johan Sandin said in a prepared statement Tuesday. In the long term, CEO Martin Jönsson added that the drug could also serve as a preventive treatment for the development of Alzheimer’s disease.
