Hi, I'm Dr. Mark Swanger, fertility expert, and welcome to Fertility TV, your YouTube channel dedicated to empowering your fertility. This episode is all about IVF and is it 100% successful. The first thing I want to say is patients come in all the time with this thought, and often, unfortunately, it happens while they're either in the middle of IVF or they've just finished an IVF cycle and it wasn't successful. But they often come in having thought or believing that IVF is 100% successful. First thing we should all know, and I think we can all use some common sense here, is that nothing in life is 100% effective. If it was, no one would do anything else. There'd be lines out the door. Not saying there's not lines out the door for most IVF clinics already. What I'm saying is that it's not 100% successful, and I think many people go into it believing that it is. In reality, the success rates vary. They vary for several reasons. They vary based on age, they vary based on condition, and they vary based on clinic. And certainly around the world, they vary from clinic location to location. So in general, what we're seeing right now in the United States is somewhere between 40% and 50% success rate with IVF. And that's doing IVF with frozen embryo transfers, right? But often, those numbers are less. On average, I think in the United States, those statistics are somewhere between 25% and 35%. So clearly, nothing is created equal. Not all clinics, not all of us, and certainly not success rates. So it's important to go into it with our eyes wide open and a good understanding for what to expect so that we're not drastically disappointed once we go through that process if it's not successful. Hopefully, you fall into that percentage that it is successful on the first time, but odds are not actually in your favor that that's the case. And I want all my patients and all of you to go into your next IVF cycle understanding that it's probably going to take more than one cycle to be successful, because that's what we see on average across the board. And I should also clarify that it's not just IVF cycles like stimulation. There's the stimulation part and then the transfer part. And so you can separate those things, but it might take multiple of each to yield the result. If you're watching this and you've gone through IVF already, how many cycles did it take you to be successful? I hope first and foremost there was successful, but how many cycles did it take? I'd love to know. Give your answer below. You can just give a quick number, one, two, three, four, hopefully not that much. I'd love to see a lot of ones. But that would be nice to see so that we can all get a little bit more understanding about that as well. If you'd like a little bit more support on your IVF journey, if you're thinking about IVF or you've already done it and you need to improve your success rates and you'd like a little bit more support, I've created an IVF support group that can support you and hopefully increase your success rates. Please check out that link right here in this eye right here, or you can look below in the comment section below. See you in the next video. If you're doing IVF, there's many things that you can be doing to make your next IVF.
