Patients with Psoriatic Arthritis Have Increased Dental Comorbidities: A Nationwide Population-based Cohort Study in Korea

Psoriatic arthritis is a chronic inflammatory condition that affects not only the joints and skin but also broader aspects of systemic health. In this study, patients with psoriatic arthritis were found to have a higher burden of dental conditions, including dental caries, pulp and periapical disease and periodontal disorders. These findings suggest that sustained systemic inflammation may adversely influence oral health. Our results underscore the clinical relevance of oral health assessment in patients with psoriatic arthritis.

Central centrifugal cicatricial alopecia is often viewed as a scalp-limited disorder causing permanent hair loss, mainly in women of African descent. This study shows that many affected patients also have other health conditions, particularly high blood pressure, diabetes, abnormal blood lipids, uterine fibroids and anxiety. Some of these conditions appear more common than in people without CCCA. Recognizing these links may help clinicians look beyond the scalp and identify important health risks earlier. A broader, more holistic approach to patient care could therefore improve overall health outcomes in this population.

Plasma Metabolomic and Proteomic Profiling of the Mechanisms Underlying the Cumulative Impact of Co-occurring Psychiatric Disorders on Atopic Dermatitis

While atopic dermatitis (AD) has been linked to individual psychiatric disorders, the cumulative contribution of psychiatric multimorbidity to incident AD has been insufficiently characterized. This study shows that psychiatric disorder-related traits, especially co-occurring conditions and higher weighted psychiatric burden, are associated with increased long-term AD risk. Serum vitamin D modified these associations, but the finding should not be interpreted as proof that supplementation prevents AD. Metabolomic mediation was statistically significant but modest, and the prioritized plasma proteins likely reflect shared inflammatory activity rather than AD-specific biomarkers.

Early Clinical Response Predicts Treatment Persistence in Advanced Therapy–naive Atopic Dermatitis

Many patients with severe eczema need long-term treatments to keep their skin condition under control. This study followed 146 patients starting a new type of targeted treatment for the first time and asked: who keeps taking it and who stops? We found that the most important factor was how well the treatment was working at 4 months – patients who responded well early on were much more likely to stay on treatment long term. This information can help doctors and pharmacists identify early which patients may need a change of treatment, improving care for people living with severe eczema.
