'The spiral is a spiritualized circle. In the spiral form, the circle, uncoiled, unwound, has ceased to be vicious; it has been set free'.
-Vladimir Nabokov in Speak Memory
As I go about my day, cycling with my daughter to school, I synch in deeper to the meaning of these words, as if they were awakening that dormant place that I keep twisting inside. The numbed place that doesn’t affect my vulnerability, the spot that I think allows me to be a stronger and resilient woman shaped like a circle that doesn’t unravel freely into a spiral.
Let’s not go there I thought. Let’s not look into this spot that spins around and around and twirls into patterns beyond my comprehension, where I try to find a glimpse of light, a crack of brilliance.
I believe we all recognize ourselves in this, that we have sometimes trouble merging with what we know is best for us, our intuition and the beautiful potential in our life that is right there waiting to resolve.
We maybe look into the wrong places and try to open the wrong doors with bigger tools if they don’t crack open when we want. Probably connecting in relations that aren’t supportive, uplifting or brilliant, frustrating our heartfelt whish of being seen. Old patterns that keep us safe, hiding our core from the unknown and somatising in our bodies our fear of not enoughness in this world. The recognizable safe place where we pretend to see ourselves as others see us.
How does our truth become compromised by settled paradigms, old belief systems, repeated archetypes that we do not dare to challenge? Can we feel where we get stuck?
What is there inside that you do not dare to look into to set that circle free into a spiral, allowing the full potential of your own gifts and inner wisdom to unfold?
And why do you not dare more often to discriminate with clarity what is supportive of your own existence from what isn’t?
