Orego ๐Ÿ’™ Helping You Support Others with Mental Health & Special Needs
๐ŸŽ“ Expert-Led Live Workshops & e-Courses for Parents, Educators & Caregivers

The DNA for the Company was identified some time before we settled on the name of the company โ€“ we wanted a purpose to anchor what we are doing. Without this all-important desire, we will not have started at all. We want to maximise the potential of the lives of those people who come to us by being the place where people can come to learn and grow to be a better person or to be better in what they do. Through education, training and other forms of services, we hope to equip them with knowledge and skills to better able to dealing with life and family challenges, and to be more effective and productive at work.

โ€˜Oregoโ€™, the name chosen to be our Company name, aptly reflects our belief. Orego is the Greek word for โ€˜aspireโ€™. It means to โ€˜eagerly desire to accomplish some goal or purpose; to strive to attain, to aspire to, to eagerly long forโ€™. We want to impart to people a sense of being Restored, Encouraged and Enabled.

Leaving an abusive relationship isn't always simple. Fear, financial struggles, and concern for children can make it difficult.

Instead of judging, try saying: ๐Ÿ’™ ๐—œ'๐—บ ๐˜€๐˜๐—ถ๐—น๐—น ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ ๐—ถ๐—ณ ๐˜†๐—ผ๐˜‚ ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ ๐˜€๐˜‚๐—ฝ๐—ฝ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐˜.

๐Ÿ’š Family violence isnโ€™t always physical. Sometimes, it looks like control.

Does someone constantly monitor their partner, decide who they can talk to, make them question their own reality, or use threats to keep them afraid?

These behaviours may be signs of coercive control โ€” a pattern of behaviour used to maintain power and control over another person.

One behaviour alone may not tell the whole story. What matters is recognising the pattern and understanding how it affects a person's freedom, safety, and wellbeing.

Letโ€™s learn to recognise the signs, raise awareness, and support those who may be experiencing family violence โ€” without judgement.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Why do you think controlling behaviours can sometimes be difficult to recognise?

Letโ€™s start the conversation.

Not leaving doesn't mean the abuse isn't serious. There may be barriers that others cannot see โ€” fear of further harm, financial constraints, threats, limited support, or concern for children.

For someone experiencing abuse, leaving can be a complicated and sometimes dangerous process. We shouldn't assume we know their circumstances simply because we don't understand their choices.

๐Ÿ’š Instead of judging someone for staying, let's create a safe space where they feel heard, believed, and supported.

Remember: Everyone deserves safety, dignity, and support โ€” whatever stage of their journey they're in.

๐Ÿ’” Why does she keep going back?

Imagine telling a friend about the abuse youโ€™ve experienced, only to return to the relationship later. Your friend might feel frustrated and wonder why you donโ€™t just leave.

But leaving an abusive relationship is rarely that simple.

Fear, financial dependence, threats, concern for children, and the hope that things might change can make leaving incredibly difficult. Sometimes, returning may feel like the safest or only option at that moment.

Instead of asking, โ€œWhy does she keep going back?โ€ perhaps we should ask, โ€œWhat is making it difficult for her to leave, and how can I support her?โ€

๐Ÿ’š Support starts with listening, patience, and compassion โ€” not judgement.

Sometimes, people who experience family violence don't need us to have all the answers. They need to know they can speak without fear of being judged, blamed, or dismissed.

A safe space begins when we listen patiently, respect their feelings, and allow them to share at their own pace.

As this reminder from our training highlights, โ€œWe need to provide a safe place ... for them to be supported emotionally.โ€

๐Ÿ’™ You may not be able to change their situation overnight, but your compassion can help them feel less alone.

Imagine someone finally gathers the courage to tell you that they are experiencing abuse. It may have taken them a long time to speak up, and they may already be questioning themselves.

Now imagine their first response is, โ€œWhat did you do to make them angry?โ€

Instead of feeling supported, they may feel blamed all over again.

Remember, nothing someone does or says justifies abuse. Sometimes, the most meaningful words we can offer are simply: โ€œI believe you. I'm here to support you.โ€๐Ÿ’™

Let's be the person who listens without judgment.

Have you ever wondered why someone stays in a relationship that hurts them?

From the outside, leaving may seem like the obvious choice. But imagine worrying about where you will live, how you will support your children, or what might happen if you try to leave. Perhaps, a part of you still hopes the person you love will change.

For someone experiencing family violence, leaving isn't always simpleโ€”or safe.

๐Ÿ’™ Instead of asking, *โ€œWhy don't they just leave?โ€* perhaps we can ask, *โ€œHow can I support them?โ€*

Sometimes, understanding begins when we choose empathy over judgment.

Imagine David asking to use his own money, but his son controls the bank account and decides whenโ€”and how muchโ€”David can access.

At first, someone might think, โ€œMaybe his son is just helping him manage his finances.โ€ But what if David is no longer allowed to make decisions about his own money?

That is where we need to pause and look at the pattern of control, not just the situation itself.

๐Ÿ’ญ What do you notice in Davidโ€™s situation?
