Why do some people feel the urge to urinate immediately after drinking water? How many times a day is considered abnormal to urinate?
Patients often ask me why they frequently need to urinate after drinking water. Meanwhile, some people don't feel the urge to urinate no matter how much water they drink. How many times a day is considered normal to urinate?
If you also have these concerns, here are my suggestions:
1. Why do some people not feel the urge to urinate even after drinking a lot of water?
There are many reasons. For example, some people naturally have larger bladders, resulting in a larger urine storage capacity; people who exercise frequently lose water quickly; people who frequently hold their urine can experience decreased bladder sensitivity; if the body is severely dehydrated, the water will be absorbed by the renal tubules first, resulting in less urine.
These are all normal situations and do not require excessive worry.
What we really need to be concerned about are reduced urine output caused by medical conditions, such as decreased kidney function, urinary tract obstruction, or abnormal heart function. Therefore, for safety's sake, if you find yourself drinking a lot of water but rarely urinating, and experiencing other discomfort, it's best to see a doctor for a checkup to rule out any underlying medical conditions.
2. What causes the urge to urinate immediately after drinking water?
There are many reasons, including:
1) Naturally small bladder
2) Relaxed bladder sphincter
3) High blood sugar
3. How much urine is normal? Is it related to the kidneys?
Generally speaking, the frequency of urination is directly proportional to water intake.
Under normal circumstances, an adult's total 24-hour urine output is approximately 1500ml, with each urination producing 300-400ml, which translates to about 3-5 urinations per day. Of course, this is just an average; most people urinate 3-6 times during the day and 0-1 times at night. If you fall within this range, it's mostly normal and not related to the kidneys.
If you're not drinking a lot of water but still urinate frequently, be wary of prostate problems, urethritis, hyperuricemia, diabetes, and other metabolic diseases, or even malignant tumors. It may not necessarily be a kidney problem. In this case, it's best to see a doctor for examination and appropriate treatment.
4. Three Steps to Determine if Your Urine is Healthy
1) Normal urine has a distinctive, faint odor. If your urine has a strong ammonia smell or other strange odor, it may be caused by conditions such as diabetic ketoacidosis, and you should seek medical attention promptly.
2) Urine color: If your urine is bright red, milky, or soy sauce-colored, especially if it is foamy, be alert to the possibility of kidney disease and seek medical attention immediately.
3) Urine volume: Generally, a normal daily urine output is 1500ml, with 3-6 urinations per day. If this range is exceeded, especially if nighttime urine output is greater than daytime output, it may indicate a health problem, and you should seek medical attention promptly.
