The Ministry of Health has recently eased its restrictions on funeral gatherings in line with COVID-19. Effective 26 April 2022, here are the new measures that apply:

โœ… No limit on attendee capacity
โœ… Buffet lines/ individually packed food can be served
โœ… Live performances are allowed

Here are some tips and guidelines that would help you understand better:

Cantonese - families will give red (deceased over 80 years old) or white envelopes containing candy and coins to their guests. For them to leave the bad luck at the funeral and bring good luck home

Hokkien - process takes place by transporting the deceased in a coffin from their home to the funeral hall. A person known as the โ€œleader of the wayโ€ will carry a ceremonial umbrella over the coffin and the movement will cover the streets and roads as well

Teochew - Taoist priests will usually be invited to recite prayers and also perform taoist rituals before it is buried or cremated
