Psychological Safety and Sustainability

All of us deserve a non-judgemental and nurturing space to dialogue with our Self honestly - whether it is to make sense of who we are or our trials and tribulations, to explore future direction, to seek personal transformation, or to heal.

It is only when we feel held in a compassionate space that we can find courage and feel emboldened to make peace, take risks, create changes, and love.

Gro

unded in that spirit, The Psychology Atelier upholds a psychologically safe space to witness and journey with you in taking that courageous and compassionate step towards encountering your Self in the fullness of its complexity.

We hope to be your safe haven where you find comfort, and secure base where you find courage, as we collaborate to help you:

✽ Begin to understand and honour your needs and passions

✽ Become assured to own your uniqueness and values/strengths

✽ Grow a harmonious and empowering relationship with your Self, and with important others

✽ Ultimately, find freedom from external expectations and validation, to become and be your Own Person

Our Ethos:

🌱 PSYCHOLOGY FOR EVERYONE
Where there are people, there is psychology. We are interested in creative applications of psychology that weave magic into everyday life.

🌱 THERAPY FOR EVERYONE
We provide specialised psychotherapy for people with clinical disorders. We also work with individuals keen to receive the gift of therapy, to discover a life where they feel more present, and enriched in their values.

🌱 PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS OF CARE
We use therapeutic techniques and psychology principles that are well researched to ensure high quality of care in supporting your journey of recovery, growth, and/or creativity.

🌱 EMPOWERING APPROACH
We focus on individuals’ uniqueness and strengths, rather than an illness and deficit model that zooms in on diagnoses and symptoms.

🌱 COLLABORATIVE AND RESPECTFUL
We recognise that everyone is an expert in their own life. We invite and value your partnership in our collaboration.

🌱 SUSTAINABLE LIVING
We believe that the aliveness of humanity is only as good as the ability to care for our internal and external space sustainably. Note:
If you have a crisis or an emergency, or believe that someone you know has imminent or significant risk, you are strongly advised to:
- Contact your/their psychiatrist or GP; or
- Visit the nearest Accident & Emergency department to ask for assistance.
- If in Singapore, call these 24-hour Helplines: Institute of Mental Health (IMH) at 6389 2222, or Samaritans of Singapore (SOS) at 1800 221 4444.

A child who prefers talking to AI chatbots is really looking for connection, to be heard and seen. As all humans do, if their needs aren't met by the people with them, they turn to alternatives.

We can't avoid a world with AI, but we can learn to live with it healthily.

In this article on MOE's Schoolbag Dr Hong-hui Lin • 林紘慧 博士 shares more on meeting the needs of your children, as well as what you can start doing today.

We are delighted to welcome Jun to The Psychology Atelier. As a Clinical Psychologist, Jun brings a thoughtful, warm and deeply relational approach to her work with clients.

Her clinical experience spans a range of concerns including anxiety, depression, stress, self-esteem, relationship difficulties, attachment injuries and complex trauma. She is particularly interested in understanding the ways our past experiences can shape how we relate to ourselves, others and the world around us.

At the heart of Jun’s practice is the belief that meaningful therapeutic work begins with feeling understood and safe enough to explore what lies beneath the surface. Her approach is grounded in trauma-informed and attachment-focused principles, with an emphasis on helping clients develop greater self-understanding, emotional regulation and more fulfilling relationships with themselves and others.

We are very happy to have Jun join our team and look forward to the perspective, care and curiosity she brings to our therapeutic community.

Bullying at work isn't always loud or obvious. It often shows up as small things that build up, e.g. a colleague's tone that changed, being left out of conversations, comments that feel a bit off but hard to explain. By the time you are aware of what's happening, you may have already spent months explaining it away to yourself.

Furthermore, this kind of mistreatment isn't "just in your head." The brain processes social exclusion through the same pathways as physical pain, which is why it can affect your sleep, your confidence, and your sense of who you are at work.

When this starts to feel like your new normal, it may be time to look beneath the surface at what's actually happening, and why it's so hard to move on from.

Jealousy itself isn't a wrong emotion to feel. It functions to protect what is important to us, signals our need to safeguard emotional bonds, and invites us to look gently at what matters dearly to us.

However, chronic or suspicious jealousy can be hurtful and counterproductive to fulfilling our needs, especially in a relationship.

When jealousy begins to dictate your behaviour, it may be time to look beneath the surface at your own attachment patterns.

Read our blog article on how to deal with being jealous in a relationship. Reach out to us if you have to.

We may not have come across these terms before, but we probably know or even have felt such feelings - delighting in someone else's pain, or delighting in someone else's joy.
