Sweating cools your body, but if you’re drenched when it’s not hot or without any exertion, you may have hyperhidrosis, a condition where overactive sweat glands are triggered by an over-firing sympathetic nervous system. It most commonly targets the hands (palmar), feet (plantar), underarms (axillary), and face, and often begins in childhood or adolescence with no underlying illness (primary hyperhidrosis).

This condition is highly treatable, from prescription antiperspirants and Botox to a minimally invasive surgery called endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy (ETS) that interrupts the overactive nerve signals for lasting relief.
