Finding a lung nodule on a chest X-ray or CT scan can understandably feel worrying. What happens next? ​

Lung nodules are small areas seen in the lung, and they can appear for many reasons. These may include a previous infection, inflammation or, in some cases, an early lung cancer.​

What happens next depends on factors such as the size and appearance of the nodule, whether it changes over time, and your individual risk factors.​

Some nodules may only need to be monitored with follow-up scans, while others may require further tests such as a PET scan or biopsy. If a nodule appears suspicious or continues to grow, surgery may sometimes be considered to help confirm the diagnosis and, where appropriate, form part of the treatment plan.​

If you have been told that you have a lung nodule and are unsure what the findings mean, it may be helpful to discuss the scan and possible next steps with your doctor.​

Sweating cools your body, but if you’re drenched when it’s not hot or without any exertion, you may have hyperhidrosis, a condition where overactive sweat glands are triggered by an over-firing sympathetic nervous system. It most commonly targets the hands (palmar), feet (plantar), underarms (axillary), and face, and often begins in childhood or adolescence with no underlying illness (primary hyperhidrosis).

This condition is highly treatable, from prescription antiperspirants and Botox to a minimally invasive surgery called endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy (ETS) that interrupts the overactive nerve signals for lasting relief.
