My beloved SHEs, let's support each other. 🥰
Not with our opinions, but with our actions 💪
“Kanika and I have known each other for the past 16 years; we worked at the same office. But we weren’t such good friends back then. Six months after I joined, she quit. Then, we’d meet occasionally.
But our friendship actually took off in 2012, when Kanika posted about going to Vietnam. I’d just separated; I wanted to do something fun. So, I messaged her, ‘I’m coming with you!’ She said, ‘Of course!’
That trip was the best! We shopped, partied and went scuba diving. One night, we went clubbing, and took control of the DJ and played 90s Bollywood music! Surprisingly, no one complained! In fact, by the end of the night, the entire club jammed with us! It was everything I needed! She was so much fun to be with!
11 days later, I returned as a new person with a friendship I knew I’d always cherish. We weren’t the ‘meet everyday’ kind of friends; but whenever we met, we were like a house on fire! In Kanika, I found a confidante!
So, 2 months back, when Kanika told me she’s been diagnosed with Breast cancer, I was disturbed. She tried to put on a brave face but I knew she was shaken.
It was so upsetting to see my fearless friend feeling so scared. So, I ensured I was with her through each step of the way. I’d even spam her with, ‘How are you feeling?’ messages.
But once whe she went MIA on me, I got worried. That was until I received a, ‘I’m nervous to get my hair chopped’ text from her. She always had thick curly hair; I understood her pain; I knew she’d been crying.
I wanted her to know she wasn’t alone. So, I decided to chop mine too. When I told her, she asked, ‘Really?’ I told her, ‘It’s just hair; it’ll grow back.’
Next day itself, we booked an appointment at the salon. We sat side by side. Once done, we plastered a huge sloppy kiss on each other's bald heads! Seeing Kanika laugh, that’s all I wanted! I didn’t care; my hair would grow back and so would hers. We took pictures and our friends loved our ‘new look’.
I’m trying to be the best cheerleader for Kanika. But I’m waiting for the day the doctor says, ‘Kanika, you’re cancer free!’ Because that will be the day, these two bald women will dress up, put on their best outfits and celebrate…without worrying about having a ‘bad hair day’!”
