This wood exist from 1913-2015. 102 years old.
10 decades of providing shade, leaves helping to cool the air, producing phytoncides to reduce cortisol.

It is not by chance. It has withstand storms and drought. It has continue to grow amidst adversity.

A quiet lesson that this tree teach us. Is not how much attention we received, but how much life we create in our community. Is not about growing higher, is about helping others grow stronger, being the support.

Stay grounded, deeply rooted and fulfill our purpose.

Mummy bring children to the world
Daddy bring children to see the world

Daddy don’t help Mummy to take care of children. Both have their part to play.

Daddy who are more actively engage with children helps in social and emotional development.

Playing sports, hike, beach play, cycling, carrier, playground, hide and seek, gun play, sword play(even though my wife dislike🤣), kitchen play, reading books, daddy’s hug.

Biologically these help in producing oxytocin. Learning things through fun and engagement.

Engagement need not to be expensive. I have observed many toys was kept in the store room after a few days.

Toys that bought below $10 can be as fun like kite, shaker, puzzle and ninja sword. Those without battery and fanciful lights.

Providing psychological safety, financial security, co-regulator is never easy to balance. But it is also because of this, it makes it fruitful and meaningful.

Happy Father’s Day.

Familiar way is Safe
New way is uncertain and scary.

If you are constantly heading back to old ways, is not your fault. Is neuroscience. Our brain is hard wired. We need to re-wired it before real change can make the impact.

Your Brain cannot ruminate and sense at the same time!!!

When you are fully present, here and now, to engage in your 5 senses, the looping rumination breaks.

You have bought yourself to another world. Whatever you have been ruminating are being pushed to the back of your brain.

When you think of the problem long enough and is not heading any where, your mind need sharpening.

Do grounding work by spotting:

5 things you can see
4 things you can touch
3 sounds you can hear
2 things you can smell
1 thing you can taste

You will find yourself in a more calming state.

“Look at the greens when your eyes feels blurry!!”

That’s what I was told when I am young.

It has then be one of the many mental health tools I find effective. Not just by looking at the green, but immerse in it.

What can it do by immersing it for 20-30min?

🌲Reduce cortisol
🌲Lower blood pressure and calm the heart rate
🌲Improve focus and cognitive clarity
🌲Fire up bi-literal movement

Away from busy-ness and spend in the woods is not time lost. Is recovery.

There is a chemical that is very help to boost immune system in the woods, which I have learnt from Mayday concert. That is, “Phytoncides”.

If you want learn more about immerse in forest bathing, look out for

Your partner does not always need your solution.

Sometimes they need your presence.

I met many couples unknowingly fight over this.

One person is hurting.

The other person is trying to help.

So they fix.
Advise.
Problem-solve.

Not because they do not care.

Because they care deeply.

But support given in the wrong language can still feel like disconnection.

Before responding, pause and remember:

1)ASK

“What do you need from me right now?”

Do not assume.

People are not difficult.

People are different.

2)LISTEN

Not to reply.

Not to fix.

Listen for the emotion behind the words.

Sometimes people calm down not because their problem disappeared—

But because someone finally understood them.

3)RESPOND

Respond to what is needed.

Not what feels natural to you.

Sometimes they want perspective.

Sometimes they want solutions.

Sometimes they just need to know:

“I’m with you.”

In a relationship, is not about becoming your partner’s problem-solver.

It is about becoming their safe place.

You learn your partner the same way you learn yourself:

Not through assumptions.

Through presence.

Assumption is the killer of Joy

I was doing research on steadfast and it link me to search about oak tree and I chance about this beautiful quote.

It got me reflect. I am happy with my life now. People often say, “You are doing so many things but you are still so energetic and happy.”

To search deeper, the joy is never keeping the joy to myself, but to share with people and guiding people how to search for the joy that align with ourselves. That keeps me going, naturally.

A sneak preview of my new therapy space.

Thrilled to collaborate with like minded therapist with common value and beliefs. Finding support and community is important.

Life is a journey, not a destination. Like how my journey in life so far, it always evolved from every step I take, every choice I made and community I found.

I value personal growth. Personal growth and relationship growth. I often share with my clients that coming to therapist session is not that you have something wrong. Is simply there are skills that are yet to be learned.

Skills is not only need in work place.
There are thinking skills, regulations skills, relationships skills, parenting skills and many more. We need to evaluate an choose what are the skills we need in our season of life right now.

I am a psychotherapist that specialize in
Personal growth,
Relationship growth
Marriage preparation and
Quitting smoking.

Happy 7th Anniversary to my wife!!

REAP Counselling will never be born if I have never met my wife. We are classmates in our Masters Program. We only started dating after we graduate from our Masters. The inner child, attachment style , transactional analysis, CBT, CTRT, SFBT, Psychoanalysis, Systemic, Narrative contribute our understanding of ourselves and each other.

There is no good luck or bad luck in a relationship. We cannot choose our beginning by default, but can choose who can make us grow in the journey by decision and discovery.

Compatibility is never all about feelings. Is about

Awareness
Behavior modification
Communication
Discernment/Decision
