UfitnessSG

UfitnessSG UfitnessSG is a community-focused platform that promotes fitness, strength, and active ageing for people of all ages. Founded by AndrewKohSG.

We share practical, evidence-based insights to support healthy movement, longevity, and quality of life. In the bustling fitness landscape of Singapore, one name stands out as a beacon of change and personalized wellness – Ufitness, the brainchild of the visionary fitness professional Andrew Koh. Andrew's journey began with a genuine desire to redefine the fitness industry, focusing on preventive

care and personal training right at the core of Sentosa. The inception of Ufitness in Sentosa marked the beginning of a fitness revolution, with a distinctive approach that set it apart from traditional gyms. A passionate entrepreneur, Andrew recognized the growing demand for highly skilled fitness professionals who could provide exceptional services. Instead of following the conventional path of membership-driven, commercial gyms, he saw an opportunity to cater to a niche market seeking personalized training and preventive care. Ufitness Singapore adopts a unique business model, transcending the boundaries of boutique and commercial gyms. Unlike mainstream fitness establishments, Ufitness positions itself as a fitness collective and community, fostering a collaborative spirit with its clients residing in Singapore's homes. This innovative approach creates a symbiotic relationship where Ufitness doesn't compete with traditional gyms but complements and collaborates with individuals seeking a more personal and customized fitness experience. Initially rooted in Sentosa, Ufitness found its home at Core Collective Sentosa, based at Amara Sanctuary. This strategic location exemplifies Ufitness' commitment to providing fitness training and an immersive and holistic experience in a tranquil and inspiring environment. The personalized touch extends beyond the workout sessions, encompassing the overall well-being of its clientele. Andrew Koh's foresight in identifying the need for a community-driven fitness solution has paved the way for Ufitness to thrive. By eschewing the conventional membership-driven model, Ufitness has created a space where certified personal trainers and instructors collaborate seamlessly with clients, fostering a sense of belonging and motivation. Ufitness Singapore embodies more than just a fitness centre; it represents a philosophy of personalized care, community engagement, and a commitment to empowering individuals on their wellness journey. Andrew Koh's passion and innovative spirit have shaped Ufitness and left an indelible mark on the fitness landscape of Singapore, creating a paradigm shift in how individuals approach their health and well-being.

Parkinson’s is more than tremor.

It can affect movement, balance, walking, speech, sleep, mood and daily independence, often in different ways for different people.

We created this general awareness guide to help individuals, families and caregivers better understand Parkinson’s disease, the supportive role of safe exercise, and when medical or physiotherapy guidance may be needed.

There is currently no known cure, but appropriate treatment, rehabilitation and regular adapted movement may help support strength, mobility, confidence and quality of life.

Awareness helps us respond with greater patience, dignity and compassion.

Many seniors share the same quiet concern:

**“𝐈’𝐦 𝐚𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐟𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠.”**

It is not always the fall alone that worries them. It is what may follow: the loss of confidence, mobility, independence, and the freedom to move without fear.

That concern stayed with me.

So I created a simple **Four-Stage Balance Self-Check for Seniors in Singapore**, drawing on credible public health references and clear safety guidance.

This tool is not intended to diagnose fall risk or replace a professional assessment. It is simply a practical starting point for seniors and families to observe balance, become more aware of possible changes, and know when proper advice may be needed.

Sometimes, noticing a small change early can begin an important conversation.

Ageing should not mean withdrawing from movement because of fear. With appropriate support, strength training, balance practice, and a safer environment, seniors can continue moving with greater confidence and dignity.

Please complete it beside stable support and with someone nearby when necessary.

Not every training enquiry should immediately become a workout session.

A client may be motivated to start training, but a responsible coach must first ask the right health questions.

Medical history?
New medication?
Recent falls?
Dizziness, chest discomfort, unusual breathlessness, pain, or unexplained weight loss?
Returning after a long break from exercise?

These questions are not meant to scare the client.
They are meant to protect the client.

At UFitnessSG, safe training starts before the first exercise — with screening, documentation, appropriate modification, and medical clearance when needed.

This is especially important for seniors, beginners, and clients with health concerns.

Exercise is powerful, but it should begin at the right level, for the right person, at the right time.

Fitness is not always about performance.

Sometimes, movement is about rebuilding confidence.
Sometimes, it is about adapting.
Sometimes, it is about having the courage to begin again.

Maya Seah’s story is a meaningful reminder of resilience after stroke, adaptive fitness, community support and the importance of inclusive movement.

Through adaptive archery, Paradragon, fitness, walking and the encouragement of people around her, Maya continues to show what it means to keep trying.

Her message is simple:

“Don’t give up, life is short, go and try.”

Shared with Maya’s review and permission.

As our ageing population grows, the deeper question is whether seniors can continue to move safely and maintain strength, balance, mobility, confidence, and independence in daily living.

At UFitness.sg, we believe active ageing is not about fear. It is about awareness, preparation, safe movement and supporting quality of life as we grow older.

Living longer is a blessing.
Ageing stronger is something we can continue to support as individuals, families and communities.

When Dementia Still Sounds Normal

A person may sound lucid, recognise people and hold a conversation yet still struggle with daily safety, judgement, mobility, medication, falls risk or care decisions.

This article is a general reflection on health and active ageing that families may not see during short visits.

Lucid speech tells us one thing. Daily function tells us much more.

Frailty is real.

It does not always arrive suddenly. Sometimes it begins quietly, with a slower walk, difficulty standing, weaker legs, poorer balance, or less confidence in daily movement.

As a fitness professional, I have learned that the body often tells its story through movement.

This article is not about shaming ageing. Ageing is natural. But frailty should not be ignored.

I wrote this to raise awareness about senior strength, gait speed, sit-to-stand ability, balance confidence, the Clinical Frailty Scale, and why early awareness matters for families and seniors.

This simple Memory & Attention Self-Check was created after learning more about cognitive screening and memory awareness through both an institutional setting and a specialist longevity clinic.

This UfitnessSG version is not a medical test. It is meant to be light-hearted, simple and useful for early awareness.

Sharing this because many of us may know a parent, senior, friend or neighbour who could benefit from a gentle check-in.

After the 30-Second Sit-to-Stand Test raised strong awareness about leg strength and functional fitness, let’s now look at another important area: upper-body strength.

The 30-Second Arm Curl Test is a simple functional fitness assessment that helps older adults and seniors understand arm strength and endurance. This matters for daily living tasks such as carrying groceries, lifting household items, holding bags, and maintaining independence.

At UfitnessSG, this tool is designed to raise awareness of educational and active ageing. It is not a medical diagnosis or a replacement for professional assessment.

For safety, seniors should use the correct reference weight, sit on a sturdy chair, and have someone supervise, time and count where possible. Stop immediately if there is pain, dizziness, unusual breathlessness or unsafe movement.
