Sometimes when you push yourself too hard and too far when your weary soul is telling you that you need a break, your body will force you to take a break instead.

It’s okay to break a little. After all, we’re all fighting our own personal battles that are often silent. Sometimes, that requires us to take a break and attend to the inner child that’s calling for our attention. It’s not easy to be strong all the time and don’t let anyone tell you that you have to be.

It’s okay to take a step back when you need to.

I’ve always been saying this but I’ll say it again, the world can wait.

Somebody once told me, “Every experience carries a message for you”

When we learn from our experiences, we learn to identify what serves and does not serve us, our unmet needs, and what’s within our control and what’s not.

Feeling low, lack of motivation, moody and sad is normal. You don’t have to feel happy and ok all the time.

Feeling down is often a reflection of an unmet need (Emotional or physical) rather than the experience itself.

But that doesn’t mean we have to let our moods or emotions take the better of us.

There are things we can do to help us build our mental toolkit to help us build self-awareness to help us evolve and navigate future experiences better.

Oftentimes, we carry and hold onto what weighs so heavily on our mind, body, and soul because we carry it all so well and not knowing how it has really been impacting us.

We cannot directly change or switch our emotions or mood, but we can gradually learn to recognize and healthily cope with them.

Most importantly, learning to have compassion for our human needs for instant gratification and relief while being honest with ourselves about which of those coping mechanism, thought and behavioral patterns are making things worse for us in the longer term.

Take your time, your direction is more important than your speed.

What you think will change how you feel, but here’s the twist.

It hurts, doesn’t it? When someone we love, trust, and respect tells us to just “think positively.”

When you tell someone to just think positively, it translates into:

- Your feelings, it’s wrong. Just think positively.

-Your struggles, it’s wrong to be stressed and frustrated over it. Think positively.

-Your grief, it’s wrong. Just let it go and move on, think positively.

Your anger, it’s wrong. Get over it and move on. Think positively.

How does it sound now? Hurtful isn’t it?

I hate and avoid using the phrase, “think positively.”

Thinking positively is a mental construct. You don’t need to think “positively” all the time to be okay or feel okay.

If we listen to our feelings and emotions closely, it can tell us what we truly need to heal.

Feel what you need to feel, your feelings are valid and they are safe.

No one should tell you otherwise.

It’s okay, to tell people you’re sad and you just need a little more time to heal and feel better.

It’s okay, to tell people that you need a little extra support and help.

Remember, we’re human and not robots.

We can’t just press a button to reset our experiences, trauma, thoughts, feelings, or deepest regrets.

A conversation I had with my friend today:

“If you keep doing the same things, believing the same beliefs, that’s gonna be the core pattern of who you are and nothing’s gonna change. If nothing changes internally, nothing changes externally.”

That hit me. And it hit me because I’ve been posting reels that are in B&W, not because I like the aesthetic of it but because that’s how I feel these days without knowing I’ve been transferring those feelings onto my feed. (I try to be as authentic as I can on this channel :’) )

Here’s a little reminder:
1. Love yourself and all your emotions.

2. Say how you really feel, and be as honest as you can. There’s nothing to be embarrassed about. The right people will listen.

3.Decide who you want to be and prove it to yourself with small wins.

Focus on the next baby step, not the entire staircase

“All the love in this world is useless when there is a lack of understanding.”

“I supposed you do love me, in your way.”

We think we know so much about someone, but knowing and understanding is different.

To know is not to understand. We could know everything and still not understand anything.

Perhaps the next time we think we know something, we could go a little further to ask ourselves, what is this experiencing trying to make us understand?

“Hey you’ve look like you gained some weight.”

“You look so big in that outfit!”

“Why is your face shape like that”

“You’ll look better if you have a smaller face, sharper nose, double eyelid, sharper jaw.”

“Why are you b***s so small?”

“You look thick!”

“Are you sure you wanna eat all of that?”

“You look better in the past!”

Have you ever experience someone commenting an unnecessary remark on your body or looks? The next moment, you find yourself being upset, low mood, angry and mull over the comment itself?

Since a young age, I’ve have had a negative relationship with my body. And i’ve built a habit of changing out of endless outfits just because, “I think I look fat in it” though I really liked the outfit.

I felt joy when I see the number on the weighing scale going down and miserable when the scale goes up. I’ve became addicted to the numbers instead of how my body was feeling.

To some extent, we’ve all internalised how our body “should” look like through the lens of social media, our childhood and the collective experiences we’ve encountered with different individuals day in and out.

It’s one thing to say “Love yourself,” “All bodies should be accepted and loved!” “Body positivity,” “As long as you’re healthy what!” & another to really love and accept the person you look at in the mirror everyday.

Growing up in a world and culture that places so much emphases body size and appearance, it’s hard to not internalise that it dictates our worth and value, often more than health.

The amount of degrading words and thoughts I’ve spoken and thought of myself… how often I judge and reject food for fear that I’ll end up gaining weight and the “imagined” extra fats on my body.

I can’t remember the last time I actually appreciate and love my body for what it provided me and protected me from.

Instead, the endless judgement and times I’ve tried to change or alter my body than to understand and respect it.

One day, one step, one kind word, at a time

Words of advice from a 20 to the 20s:

Enjoy the process - the feeling of stagnation, growth, fear, stillness, and all that comes along with the journey.

Remove the pressure of having it all, being good at everything, and having it all figured out. That’s not how life’s supposed to work.

Try to stop comparing and tell yourself that anyone of any age will have their own sets of questions, insecurities, and challenges, and doubt - but we all try to hide it so much so that everything is just a facade.

You will lose the people who you thought are going to stay but there will be people that come into your life when you least expect it.

Give yourself a break and stop being so hard on yourself. Stop worrying and have a little fun.

Experiencing for Experience Sake.

I feel like nobody talk about this enough, experiencing new things not because we are truly inspired or that we’re invested in what the experience has to offer, but because we feel a sense of pressure and fear that we’re missing out or that we should be out there pushing ourselves far and beyond and setting unrealistic expectations and standards on ourselves.

The pressure to be learning, growing, earning enough money, bettering myself, and at the same time experience life if not it’s as though I’ll be left behind. Do you feel that way too?

Our culture treats productivity and experience as the utmost important goal, a measure of how well you’re doing.

On the other side, there’s very little room to simply be, explore, and most importantly, have an emotional breather.

The benchmark of what’s enough seems to be warped by social media.

Then it occurred to me that - so many of us often feel burned out as a result of forcing ourselves to do things we’re not invested in. Perhaps the more we force ourselves, the more we lose our spark and fire to do things we’re truly invested in.

Take the pressure off yourself to justify every use of your time in productive terms.

Not everything has to have a meaning before doing it, what do you think?
