Warmest congratulations to Dr. Doreen Tan, President of the Health Supplements Industry Association (Singapore) (HSIAS), on being conferred the Public Service Star – Bintang Bakti Masyarakat (BBM) at the Singapore National Day Awards 2026, in recognition of her outstanding contributions and dedicated service to the community.

HSIAS is proud to celebrate this distinguished recognition of Dr. Tan’s commitment to public service and her contributions to the community. We also congratulate Dr. Tan on her re-election as President of HSIAS for the 2026–2028 term.

Health supplements regulation in Singapore has evolved over the years.

In the olden days, consumers were less informed and the industry was less developed. Consumers’ health and safety were protected through prohibition of harmful products.

Consumers are now better informed, and the industry is more mature. Regulatory requirements have been strengthened over the years and there is greater regulatory convergence amongst regulators. In addition to the conventional protection role, the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) also plays a facilitative role in health products regulation.

HSA introduced the Voluntary Notification System in 2022 to enable industry players to list their health supplement products that meet relevant safety and quality standards for consumer’s reference. HSA also published guidelines for industry’s reference and conducted annual industry training workshops to facilitate regulatory compliance.

Moving forward, the regulatory controls for health supplements will be transitioned from the Medicines Act to the Health Products Act. It is important to continue to strengthen collaborations amongst the key players in the ecosystem - regulator, industry, and consumers, as well as empower the players to act responsibly, as we persevere in our shared vision of health and safety protection while not hindering product innovation.
