We are now equipped with lymph scanner at Physio Edge! The lymph scanner measures the percentage of water content right underneath our skin. Compared to traditional circumference measurement with measuring tape, it gives more direct and accurate information about swelling.

In our clinical practice, it helps to:

- make early diagnosis of lymphedema with confidence

- identify swelling in areas that are difficult to measure with measuring tape, such as the chest area

- direct the focus of treatment to the most affected area

- monitor progress of treatment over time

Lymphoedema does not look this bad ever since the start. That's why it is easily ignored in the early stage, which is the best time to start treatment.

Initial swelling can be very difficult to spot through naked eyes, and only prominent with circumferential measurement. Some subtle symptoms may be noticed in the limb where the lymph nodes were taken. They include stiffness of joint movement, skin feeling tight, and general heaviness feeling in the limb.

Measuring the circumference of the limb from time to time can help to identify early lymphoedema.

Commonly affected body parts are the arm on the side of the breast cancer, and the legs for gynaecologic cancer.
