We made spinach & ricotta stuffed shells using the gorgeous pasta gifted by pawparents from their travels in .

We followed this wonderful recipe from and it was everything you’d hope for, delicious and comforting. This generous batch means we’ll be happily enjoying it over the next few meals too.

Dinner was such a treat.

They’ve got this “market option” where you pick your meat or fish from their produce section and they’ll prepare it à la minute with sides. Took me and a hot second to figure out how it worked but the payoff was worth the initial confusion.

I went with the ocean trout—beautifully cooked, skin crisped to perfection, simply seasoned with salt and pepper, and done just right. But honestly? The sweet potato mash nearly stole the show. Comforting, rich, and giving serious Thanksgiving vibes.

Friendly, attentive staff rounded off the experience nicely. Definitely one I’ll be back for.

Claypot rice prepared à la minute is such a rare find these days. Reservations and pre-ordering the claypot are highly recommended to avoid disappointment.

Also tried the fruity prawns. Think rojak-style sauce paired with succulent prawn, seriously addictive.

A delightful set lunch at Scott’s Grill earlier today. Every dish cooked to perfection and beautifully executed.

The service was warm, attentive, and made the whole experience even more enjoyable.

But the Basque cheesecake looked unassuming, but completely stole the show. That beautifully caramelised top gave way to an impossibly smooth, creamy centre rich without being heavy, and dangerously easy to keep going back for more.

I may have forgotten basic dining etiquette (like chewing between bites 😌) because it was just that good.

Choy Sum was on the menu - I poached it briefly, then shocked it in cold water to lock in its color and prevent it from becoming mushy. A drizzle of ponzu and sprinkle of sesame seeds completed the dish.

A tasty beef rendang briyani ($8.50, +$0.30 takeaway). The rendang was flavourful and beautifully tender. Cabbage and potatoes cooked perfectly. Briyani rice was fragrant and fluffy. Comes with a crisp papadum on the side.

Similar to the mismatched crockery, I also noticed chopsticks were always paired with an assortment of different rests.

So I'm starting a collection of chopsticks rest- a little taiyaki, a dango skewer, and even one shaped like the famous Dr Yellow Shinkansen.

For those unfamiliar, Dr Yellow is the bright yellow inspection train of the Shinkansen. It runs along the high-speed lines to check tracks and overhead wires, and because its schedule isn’t publicly announced, spotting it in person is considered a bit like winning the lottery among train enthusiasts.

Earlier that day in Onomichi , I picked up the Dr Yellow chopstick rest as a fun souvenir. And that same evening, both my partner and I looked up on the platforms of Fukuyama and there it was The real Dr Yellow rolling in (See next pic) .

We were absolutely thrilled, grinning like children.

Love that every object on our table, is carrying an unexpectedly joyful travel memory.
