Your morning meal doesn't just affect your energy levels; it has a direct impact on your gut too. 🌞 Eating breakfast helps trigger the gastrocolic reflex, a natural response that stimulates bowel movements and supports digestion.

Regularly skipping breakfast, especially as part of aggressive fasting routines, often contributes to digestive issues such as gastritis and, in chronic and serious cases, can lead to reflux and ulcers.

Looking after your gut begins with your everyday habits. If you're experiencing ongoing digestive issues, don't ignore them. Book a consultation with us today to give your gut the care it deserves. 💙

No family history doesn't mean no risk.

About 75% of colore**al cancer cases occur in people with no inherited cancer syndrome or obvious family history. Unfortunately, this common misconception continues to delay life-saving screening.

As a colore**al surgeon, one of the most common statements I hear from patients is: "I don't have a family history, so I never thought it could happen to me." It's understandable to think this way, but it's also one of the biggest misconceptions surrounding colore**al cancer.

Food delivery apps have made eating more convenient than ever. 🍱📱 But convenience shouldn't come at the expense of your gut wellbeing and overall health.

Ordering such takeaway meals, eating late at night, and consuming ultra-processed foods may reduce the diversity of your gut microbiome over time. A healthy gut thrives on fresh foods, including lean meats, fibre-rich fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and minimally processed foods.🥩 🥗

Try adding more fresh and whole foods to your meals, broaden your cuisine choices, and give your gut the variety it needs.

If there's one thing this journey taught me, it's that big goals aren't achieved in one giant leap. They're built one workout, one hike, and literally one step at a time.

Thanks for coming along on my Everest Base Camp journey. I hope it's inspired you to start chasing an adventure or fitness goal of your own, no matter how big or small.

This may be the end of one adventure, but it's only the beginning of my next. Stay tuned!⛰️✨

🚨 Protein is essential for building and repairing muscles, supporting recovery, and keeping you feeling full. But with high-protein products within easy reach these days, it's easy to think that more is always better.

Although sarcopenia (the age-related loss of muscle mass) is real, most people can meet their protein needs through a balanced diet of whole foods. While protein supplements can be helpful, consuming excessive amounts, especially without adequate hydration, may increase the risk of dehydration, kidney stone formation, and place added strain on the kidneys.

The key isn't simply eating more protein; it's eating the right kind of protein and the right amount for your body, activity level, and health goals. If you have concerns about your diet or gut health, speak with Mark Wong Surgery for personalised advice and care. 👨‍⚕️📩

⚠️ One thing I've noticed over the years as a colore**al surgeon is that cancer awareness is still surprisingly lacking despite being in the Information Age.

Most people still do not realise that colore**al cancer screening saves lives. In addition, those who know still delay because they're afraid of what the results might show, or falsely believe a colonoscopy is uncomfortable.

The reality is that ignorance, fear and misinformation often become bigger barriers than the procedure itself. A colonoscopy is performed under sedation, so you're comfortably asleep throughout the examination. It also remains the gold standard for colore**al cancer screening because it's the only way to detect and remove precancerous polyps before they develop into cancer.

If there's one message I'd like more people to remember, it's this: don't let fear make decisions about your health. Ask questions, understand the facts, and get screened when it's recommended. Awareness is important, but taking action is what truly makes the difference.
